Lightbulb Help in choosing wireless internet connection

    hi friends,
i want to ask if what is difference in evdo and wimax and which one is best?
actually i want a good connection suitable for video streaming and downloading with speed of 150 kBps. monthly budget not more than 750 rs.

if i go with bsnl evdo, what speed will i get?

and if i go with wimax HOWI 750 plan will i get constant speed of 512 Kbps i.e, 64 kBps? what is difference between evdo and wimax i'm really confused.

and what about NIC data Card CDMA-1X DATA CARD, what speed does it provide?

    please answer.

EVDO card is a small usb modem which you can carry around with you and wimax by Bsnl is a fixed wireless connection that would have a small reciver fixed on the terrace with a cable running into your home.

Evdo is going to be your best bet provided signals are strong in your area.

CDMA1X is only good for simple browsing that too with a lot of delay in page loads and you cant really use it for streaming videos.

I use a TP LINK TL-MR3020 Portable 3G/3.75G Wireless N Router for my 3G modem and it also supports Bsnl evdo so you could have a look at it. You can plug in the usb cable into your desktop for power and RJ45 cable for wired connection and your smart phone would connect using wifi. You can connect your desktop using wifi as well if you have a wireless card in your desktop for wifi.

    I bought it from flipkart : TP LINK TL-MR3020 Portable 3G/3.75G Wireless N Router | Router | Flipkart.com

Do not rely on luck. I suggest you check if Bsnl evdo signals are good at your place before you spend your money. There is no point spending a few thousand rupees to find out that you hardly have any signal at your home. Request a friend of neighbor to lend their evdo card to you for a few mins just to check if it works ok at your place.

and you are saying that, this wireless router will get power from usb extension of computer?
i have to plug usb modem into router? and then via RJ 45 i have to connect internet to computer and with wifi of router will able to surf on mobile or laptop?

There are two ways to power your router one is through mains and second using usb cable. You dont have to keep your computer running to use wifi on mobile. You can plug in the router into mains and have your evdo modem plugged into router that will create a wifi network for you and while that is going on if you want you can have your desktop connected using rj45 at the same time so you get one wired connection through the router and you can use the wifi network at the same time as well for other devices like your mobile or laptop. Please have a read through the flipkart page I provided a link to in one of my earlier replies to get more details about this router.

I am not sure if BSNL EvDO will work on normal EvDO port. Pay Rs. 1,500, take it for a demo, check at the modem shop and then buy it.

what total i have to pay? 950 for modem (its in offer 20 %off till december) which modem will bsnl give to me?
+350 activation charge + 750 monthly rent or should i go for prepaid beacuse i'm living on rent and then bsnl will ask for rent agreement and all.
one more query is bsnl modem's are ok? its only 3.1mbps? i mean if i buy some cdma modem with 7.2mbps or higher will there any effect in speed?

and my father is govt employ so will i get 20% discount if i go for postpaid?
which one is good? prepaid or postpaid?

Prepaid or post paid is an individual choice so you should see what suits you. I would get the one that Bsnl is selling instead of getting into unnecessary complications. I have no idea about the discounts.

There was some offer on February 2012 when I get the connection, Rs. 100/- discount up to ten months. Also my first bill plan was 750 unlimited plan and the connection start date was 21/02/2012. So rental period was 21/02/2012 to 29/02/2012.

Just give a ring to local telephone office and ask them if you tower support EvDO.

One Time Charge for new connection Rs. 500/- + Rental from 21/02/12 to 29/02/12 Rs. 206.90/- + Service Tax Rs. 72.81/- = Rs. 780.00/-

One Time Charge for new connection Rs. 500/- is only for one time on first bill and non-refundable.

    @ mahendersingh

Instead of checking where Bsnl's tower is it would be a lot more easier to check speeds at the location where you are going to use your connection, Moreover I dont think Bsnl is under obligation to provide you information about location of their towers but you could give it a try if you are desperate.
