    Hi Sathish,

I am not from Chennai but if you post your doubts in detail I may have a few answers and also you have a greater chance of getting a reply from someone in Chennai if you actually list out your questions.

    ya i'm having some doubts
    1. is it possible to use bsnl evdo micromax mmx 300c or Prithvi UE100 in chennai.
    2. when i contact to my nearest BSNL office they said i have to buy a evdo device(old one ZTE rev-o). i asked them if i come with my own device(micromax mmx 300c) will you config and give? they said i must buy from them unless they wont give the connection.
    3. i'm already using a EVDO ZTE device it is 2.4 mbps i like to go with 3.1 mbps device i heard micromax and prithvi is good and delivers 3.1 mpbs.
    4. is it possible if i brought a new micromax mmx 300c and configure it with my own without help of bsnl guys.

Yes you can buy your own modem and set up Bsnl evdo provided the modem supports the technology. If you local Bsnl office provides RUIM then its even easier. I personally would recomend buying whatever they are selling instead of going looking for a device from third parties.

If you dont want to buy their modem and they wont give you a connection without a modem then you could try another office as there are plenty in Chennai. Chennai is a big place.

There are some devices that take a RUIM and some dont. You probably have one which doesn't. It means : Removable User Interface Module. I think it costs Rs10 or may be 15 I am not sure but you get them at Bsnl offices all over India may be barring a few. The CDMA RUIM that Bsnl sells are evdo enabled and can be used all across India on roaming as well without excess data charges depending on the plan you have.

Please try calling Bsnl over the phone and find out from them which office in Chennai sells them. I am sure you would get replies from people living in Chennai as well as we get tons of visitors from Chennai every day and I am sure few of them would be kind enough to stop by and post a reply here.

Which modem is Bsnl selling? I would personally prefer to just go and buy whatever Bsnl is selling as long as it works. The bottleneck wont be the modem for speed.. Its the max speed on EVDO or the Bsnl's network signal strength. I think max it supports is 2.4mbps or is it 3.1 I am not sure so if the modem supports that much you are good to go.

Yes extension cable can be used with any usb modem. You can also use a wifi router if you want.

Some one said if we use extension cable in prithvi it gets disconnected repeatedly and heat issue if we download in GBs.
As we all know we are buying evdo for downloading in GBs.
I usually download min 1-2 GB per day so I don't want to get disconnected frequently.
