Default Do you think BSNL IPTV is unsuccessful ?

After a almost one year BSNL IPTV still in the same place where it started
because lots of disadvantages in IPTV
* High monthly rental and deposit charge

01 Installation and activation charge (One time)
Non refundable along with 1st bill 600/-
02 Security deposit for SED will be charged in 1st bill 1500/-
03 Fixed monthly charge for SED (per Month) 100/-
04 IPTV basic charge per month 150/-
05 Monthly modem Rent 90/-
06 Modem Purchase(One time payment) 600/-

* Poor service still most of the time picture is break-up or still
* Very poor customer care service of BSNL
* Lots of technical equipment is needed(SED or ADSL2)
* BSNL has a problem of cable fault very frequently
and recently new problem BSNL’s IPTV launch delayed due to lack of agreements with content providers
Do you think that it will be successful later ?

DTH is so much cheaper and reliable that no one would even look at bsnl's iptv. IPTV is only succesful in those countries where infrastructure is very developed and downtime for phone lines is almost nil which is not the case in India.
DTH rules the roost when it comes to television and I dont see this scenario changing very soon.

Yes i learn this that some western country IPTV got success specially France,Italy few eastern country also got the success like Hong Kong,Japan
but all this country has well develop those country can't be comparable to India so IPTV is not practically possible to get success in India.

IPTV is a non-starter in India. 98% people are not even aware of it.

My friend uses MTNL iptv service. He faces frequent disconnections & the picture quality is also not up to the mark. I dont think iptv would be successful.

Thumbs down

IPTV is successful or not can not say but BSNL never can be success it.
in U.P. BSNL installed multiplay system in telephone exchanges
Broadband internet connection are started over multiplay . iptv services launched. but 0 subscriber , no iptv stb, modem , nobody (BSNL's senior officers) aware about tarriff services. even channel listing not avillable over BSNL site

noidea about reliance IPTV but think so its costly then Bigtv

IPTV is flop-show till now becuase bsnl is using a third party to provide non-standard services.

Lets see if Airtel IPTV improves the standard

Spot on gaurish, it is the third party service providers who mar the image of BSNL IPTV service. Recently one of such provider in bangalore stopped their service abruptly and BSNL was left aloop for some weeks.

even after all trying, they fail and say "Sir, sorry we can't fix this".

No Doubt IPTV is better than DTH, but bsnl has to develop their infrastructure to promise consumers for best IPTV service
and the prices are also so low i think BSNL will take few yrs more to boost up IPTV SERVICES in India Like Broadband.

IPTV as such may be a very good concept. But BSNL's IPTV suffers from the following deficiencies,
1. Serviced by third party - so niether BSNL nor third party takes responsibility for fault
2. High costs for relatively few channels
3. Very little advertising
4. Most commonly viewed channels not available
5. Non-availability of combo plans in conjuction with BB and Landline service

Now that Airtel has also entered the field, we may see a difference in perceptions.

Coming back to the question if iptv is dependent on broadband speed.
Hmm i think no.
Its more like the cable tv service which is being offered by the local cable providers by a cable

Same thing here too.

IPTV of BSNL requires a minimum of 3.5mbps for streaming. It uses MPEG-4 compression technology. Hence subscribers opting for IPTV are provided 6mbps downstream, 2mbps for broadband purposes and the rest for IPTV.
