But I read somewhere that with type 1 modem we can do one thing at a time like browse the internet or watch IPTV. Is this true?

Doesnt the type 1 modem from BSNL have a USB port and an ethernet port?

I havent subscribed to IPTV service, so do not know the hardware changes being incorporated once we opt for the service.

you need two LAN ports for smooth function of both services at same time. so a modem change it required.

Here at my place, BSNL is changing Modems of IPTV users for free of cost!

However, if you don't want to change.
It would work with Type-I modem also but

Broadband and IPTV won't run at same time.

Most of the type 1 modems feature a lan port and an usb port. Cant they configure the broadband on the usb port and take the lan port for iptv connectivity?

When i tried to Use LAN & USB ports of my modem at same time, it didn't work. they used to work one at a time

Also, USB has whole lot of driver issues.
So its better to change your router, BSNL does this for free. so i don't think it should be a problem

So I think I have to change the modem. But they are not changing it for free atleast to me. They are demanding 600/- the balance amount because I bought the modem for 1200/- and multi port modem was of 1800/- at that time.

i had a Type 1 modem, which they asked me to change. i asked them to use my earlier modem with USB for internet & LAN for the IPTV, but they refused. they charged me Rs. 600/- (non-refundable). the new modem has 4 LAN ports & also Wi-Fi connectivity. i do use both nat same time(TV & net).
by the way i don't like it's performance as;
1} Live TV pause works only for DD channels, 2} Time-shift tv is only of namesake & non-functional as they are not getting the signals accordingly, 3}VoD movies are all old & B-grade ones, 4} it's a bit Slow, 5} FM isn't ready yet, etc.
