Do I need to connect a TV tuner card to see programs on my laptop. As because of power cuts some time I want to see TV on my laptop. So is there any setting so that without using tv tuner card I can view TV on laptop.

I dont think there is a way out without the tv tuner card. I normally watch television on my computer screen but I have got an inbuild tv tuner card inside the box so never really thought in those lines.

Any one else got any ideas?

Well as per me you need to have a TV tuner card or some things in your computer which enables you to connect the wires to your computer. I think it would be nice if you ask BSNL people about this thing. They would guide you much better.

There is not setting which would work without TV tunner card. It would be nice if you would buy a TV tunner card ( internal or external as you like) and then install it in your Computer and then connect your TV Cable to it.

TV tuner card will work with non-CAS cable TV only. This is because you will be getting decrypted TV signals from your non-CAS cable.

In case of CAS cable and DTH, the STB is required to decrypt the content. A typical STB has RCA RGB Composite output that can be connected to TV tuner card. But you cannot control channels from the PC.

As far as laptops are concerned unless you have a media-center laptop with built-in TV tuner, your luck is out. You cannot upgrade a laptop and add a TV tuner card to it.

But what will host the external TV tuner card? Another PC? And then what is the point of watching TV on a small laptop screen?

And also as I said, this will work with non-CAS cable only.

I dont recommed using TV tuner cards with latop / PC eventhough they are inbuilt, b/c picture tube life time gets seriously reduced.

but for recording our fav TV shows, TV tuner card method is a simple way.

Invasion of TFT made conventional CRT obsolete then no matter of picture tube life.
( TFT is also going to be obsolete within a couple of years (energy efficient , low cost , thin OLED screens are coming to Indian market ))
