    Default Bsnl 3g

All of us know that BSNL is the only 3G service provider in India. However, we are yet to receive complete 3G coverage in all parts of India. As of now, we have BSNL 3G in select cities. Using 3G internet connection for our mobiles we will be able to the multimedia content more effectively. We will be able to download video content, movies, songs, games etc at a much faster pace. We will also be able to download streaming video without having to wait for hours.

Those who are interested in viewing the demo of 3G at any of the closest customer care center in the cities where 3G is already available. If you want to get 3G internet connectivity, you do not have to necessarily get a new number or go through the new registration formalities. You can get your 3G connection with your existing connection. Your tariffs will change accordingly. If you already have a 2G SIM card, you need not have to change your SIM you just need to upgrade the service to 3G.

BSNL promises speeds over 384 KBPS for its 3G network. As per TRAI speeds over 256 KBPS is classified as broadband. Many people get confused with GPS and 3G. GPS or Global Positioning System is a hardware feature and it depends on the handset that you use. You need to have a GPS gadget or phone with GPS facility. However to work with your GPS you will need internet connection. So when you get your 3G connection you will not automatically get GPS facility.

Some of us have concerns regarding data security with 3G network. Your data with BSNL 3G is absolutely safe. Soon we will be able to do a lot of things through our 3G mobile. We will be able to do our banking through 3G mobile network, pay utility bills. All these will make life easy for us as we can do many things while we are on the move. We will be able to save a lot of time as we can utilize our traveling time to deal with all these activities.

Those who would like to use their 3G in their laptops of PDA, can connect it to their laptops of computers using a data cable, which will connect your 3G mobile and your laptop. Alternatively, you can also get your 3G data card, which will be like a USB drive to access the internet using your 3G connection.

No other service providers are providing 3G internet service yet in India. Opening the 3G spectrum for the private service providers is still in the discussion phase and the public auction is yet to take place. The date for the public auction has been postponed for a number of times already. Even BSNL is very slow to expand its 3G network to the other cities. They do not have the required infrastructure in place in all the cities. By the time we get complete 3G network in India, rest of the world would have moved to 4G or something different.

Thumbs up Motorola To Test 4G In India

While India is preparing itself to get immersed in 3G mobile telephones, the US Mobile Manufacturer, Motorola, wants to take a step further by testing the next gen telephony, 4G, in India. If this testing comes into effect, then it will the government’s plan to raise Rs 35,000 crore from selling radio frequency for 3G.

Motorola, which has already done the testing for the next generation technology, known as the Long-Term Evolution (LTE), has plans to kick off its trial services of 4G. According to Motorola, the 4G telephony has the potential for offering 70 MB per second (Mbps) download speeds on a mobile phone, which it plans to launch by end of 2009.

The company is planning to request the Department of Telecom (DoT) for a trial spectrum, Mr Subhendu Mohanty, a senior executive with Networks Mobility Business, Motorola India, told.

But this step of Motorola will cause the telephone operators who are planning to launch 3G telephony, to slow down their plans, leading to the complete spoiling of government's plan to mop up Rs 35,000 crore from auctioning the 3G spectrum.

Asked whether Motorola is talking to operators, Mr Mohanty said: “We would like to have trial with the players but the technology can also be tested on our own systems.''

Besides Motorola, other telecom vendors are also in the process of trials, industry sources said.

Question No BSNL 3G coverage in almost all areas in coimbatore

I bought 3G sim card in coimbatore, and it is working only in Gandhipuram. I guess BSNL has equipped 3G in only one tower in the entire coimbatore district. I hope by the end of 2010, 3G services will be available in the other important areas in coimbatore. When i bought the sim card, the BSNL franchise misguided me that, it will work everywhere in coimbatore city. And before buying i asked the BSNL customer care, and they told me that BSNL 3G is enabled for 30Kms from the city (Gandhipuram). To my shock, i been checking it all around coimbatore after buying, it is working only in Gandhipuram. And now when i called the customer care people, they told me to wait for some month before 3G is available in other areas. I would like request BSNL authorities to look into the problems, and make sure the franchises dont give false promises.

As for as i have checked, it is working in Gandhipuram till Sivanandha colony. And the signal goes off in saibaba colony. And it works till railway station, and in ukkadam it comes back to 2G. I stay in Kovai pudur and there is absolutely no tower. And there is no 3G signal in anywhere in mettupalayam road.

Smile You can connect to 3G most places in Coimbatore.

Mr. besantv is not correct. Mr. Prem has replied to his same complaint in fonearena blog as follows:

"As per my comment earlier, Please dont assume things and comment on it.

Am from coimbatore and i am using 4 (3 in cbe,1 in chennai) different 3g bsnl numbers .i am using it in chennai as well as coimbatore.

Coimbatore is equipped with sufficient 3g towers and it works well in coimbatore city limits ie, saravanampatty in north, kurichi in south, singanalllur in west and perur in east, still works beyond these areas as well.. and also in ooty, coonoor as well.

i have used video calls, data services and also mobile tv in various areas of cbe and it works perfectly fine.

it all depends how u configure ur handset .so first install the settings completely and then try and then comment ..

bsnl 3g is far ahead of others in terms of technology and coverage, customer service alone has to be improved- thats the only drawback at BSNL.

    Prem- 9445504009" .

    Have a nice connected day.

Q1: Yes. but 3G services would be available only with 3G handsets.
Q2: BSNL/MTNL provides 3G enabled SIM cards which can be used with any 3G compatible device
Q3: The term 3G is loosely used for the next generation of GSM service. (UMTS/HSDPA). The so called usb mobile broadband currently available in India is EVDO service, the next level of CDMA (although technically they are also 3G, of CDMA)

    ^^^
If the USB device is UMTS 2100 compatible and SIM Card based, it should be usable with any operator.

i think usb is the better option as using phone like modem disturbs when some incoming call comes at the very time.
but the cost of usb is some high at present
    else thanks for the information.

Nokia 2730 is not HSDPA, so it will give only 384 kbps access instead of 3 mbps spped of a full 3G handset

I already have two with 3G connections
Samsung B7320 (HSDPA business phone - Win Mo, office mobile, independent GPS, wifi, full qwerty, video call, FM) - bought for 11.5 k in Nov
Micromax H360 (HSDPA, JAVA, video call, touch screen + keypad, FM) bought for 5.5 k in Dec

Once you have experienced the power of HSDPA, you would not even like to hold a non-HSDPA set

    Hi Atuljain,

BSNL has reduced the price of HSDPA (3G) data cards to Rs.2500 from 1.4.2010.
