Default bsnl going to 3g

I wish to know whether the same GSM Data cards supplied by BSNL (which can be used in laptops) having speeds 110kpbs - whehter this can be used when the isp starts 3g services without any change.

Since in Chennai the 3g service has started- chennai users using gsm data cards of bsnl may respond

thank you

how can cards meant for 2g network tech work on 3g network? It's very much doubtful. Cards meant for 3g networks might be backward compatible though.

Default 3g

but the recent evdo card says its 3g compatible. But i have not confirmed with BSNL officials but the box says so. So i think the evdo card can handle 3g sims.

Though there are rumours of it being a 3G service, the site nowhere mentions that it is 3G. So, according to me it is 2G and not 3G!

Default Evdo

Yes the new EVDO is 3G compatible. If u have a 3G sim u can insert it in the back and use it to receive signals. But I dont know whether it will work or not as it programmed to work for CDMA signals. Moreover the EVDO service is not 3G. It is a 2G technology in CDMA. But it works in 2 technologies that is EVDO and CDMA1X.

Well that is doubtful, as EVDO is Enhanced 2G CDMA technology and 3G is 3G technology.
or may be it ll work with reduced privileges

EVDO is 3G for CDMA. However, in India, its power has been restricted by disabling the Voice and SMS functions and allowing only data transfer functions. This is due to Govt. regulations on 3G.
As voice is disabled it is considered to be not 3G

Unofficial info
(from a BSNL executive)
3G will be fully functional in 4 months in hyderabad , bt will have very good speeds
but I did not understand this - On the BSNL website it shows that 3G is available and also contains tariffs.. then why did the official say the above statement????
