Thats a good way to create your own hotspot, but wouldnt it be easier and cheaper if you went for a hardline broadband connection, the hardware would be cheaper and the connection speed would almost the same, but your connection costs will be drasticallly low.

There are several 3G Routers available in the market now, My recent visit to this shop (3g store) in bangalore had several models of 3g Routers, They had battery powered router called ZALIP & EDIMAX & they also had a model for BSNL & MTNL 3G in which you just have to insert a 3G SIM card.

    Default 3G pocket routers

There are a few more which have recently come up. Please check SMCWPBR-3G, Huawei E585. (yet to hit the retail outlets but you may find them on e-bay) These are battery powered routers which are portable and has a good battery life of 5 hrs. The other routers mentioned above don't last long on battery.

SimFi simcard will also come up sometime later (this one is just for information for you all.)

If any one has a 3G enabled nokia phone with wi-fi then try Joiku. Its great and works on mine (symbian phone).
