pothi, A company made or branded desktop will not cost a lot and would be much better then a locally assembled one and besides being reliable the branded one will come with a warranty.
The cost of an assembled one and a branded one is more or less the same these days.. Get a good brand.. Compaq, HP, Dell or any other reputed brand and you wont regret.

i agree with admin here... you can get a HCL desktop with 3 year warranty just for rupees 22500 now
    It is
    1 GB RAM
    160 HDD
    17" TFT
    CD/DVD R/W
    Intel core 2

i think its worth apart from that if you need a laptop then you can choose one from hp which is starting from 26000 only

Default Thank you for your views...

    Dear Admin, Smoothvibes and Aprilsagar,

Thank you so much for your time reading my post and replying with your views.

I was about to buy a second hand laptop/desktop, mainly because I've been on budget recently. For the same reason, I've bought an assembled desktop this evening. I've been losing time thus money since last Friday.

I've got the following configuration from a close friend of mine with bills, thus warranty. (I bought an assembled desktop from the same person 5 years back and I didn't have any problem from that PC.)

    AMD Sempron 2 GHz
Asus motherboard with nVidia 6100 GPU and 430 MCP (with 128 dedicated RAM. I'm unsure of this, though).
    1 GB RAM
    DVD Writer
    LG 19" WideScreen LCD Monitor
    @ 18.5K

    I don't think it's a bad deal. May I have your opinion?

The main advantage of branded PC is the MS software that comes preloaded at a nominal price. I already have a branded laptop (that _died_ last Friday) with preloaded XP. I'm going to use this desktop only with Ubuntu (that I use 99% of the time including *now*). Overall I think I made a right decision. I'm open to constructive criticism, though.

Thank you again for reading this long post.

    Have a good time.

    Hi Parshanth,

    Thank you for your views.

In that configuration, I didn't buy keyboard and mouse because I already own the best in that category already (TVS Gold and Logitech). So if I include them in the configuration, it would come to 20K.

    Thanking you again,
    Pothi.

Dell is really good brand to go for but there are very few service centers in india for dell computers, if it stops working or if there is a problem then it may take few days to get fixed and may take about 14-24 days to go come back from service center
if we talk as whole then you can go for hp laptops and HCL desktops

As a gaming freak, for desktop I always go for an assembled one... It gives me an option to customize my PC as I want... When I assembled my PC in March 2007, it was after a lot of research work about each n every part... and it became an instant hit among my friends... Infact, after taking the cue a couple of them upgraded their PC too... I spent 44 K then on my gaming console...

For laptop, my favorite is Acer... I don't need to take a high configuration laptop as I don't feel comfortable playing games on it... So, therez no need to waste much money on it... and acer is most robust and well-priced... one of my friend is using his acer laptop since last 4 yrs... he just needed to replace his battery once... no other problem... mind you, it wasn't used by him alone...

I purchased Acer 5920 for 33 K in April this yr... It sports a core 2 duo, 2GB RAM and 160GB hdd, Intels 965 Mobile chipset (No dedicated graphics card solution)etc... Basically, it satisfies Intel Centrino's new Santa Rosa Technology... For ur information, Acer is 3rd largest brand in the world in terms of selling... So its not really inferior in any case... I strongly felt Acer should market its product aggressively in India... Recently they have started to do so...

    Pothy..u got a good deal...

Dell is best all over the world... especially for after sales service... and they give customization option... I'll really think bout dell when I get over my fetish for desktops... Right now... instead of spending extra on dell... I wud prefer upgrading my desktop... Atlast, it all comes down to one's preferences...
