Default 8+ mbps broadband connections needed

    Hi all.

The company I'm working for has plans to enter the Indian market sometime next year. I'm responsible for building a VPN between offices in 8 cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad and Pune.

Cold you please help me find the most affordable options for connecting every office to the Internet at speeds above 8 megabits per second? xDSL? CaTV (DOCSIS)? Metro Ethernet? Fiber Optics? Other? (wireless connectivity is not an option at this speeds, right?)

In order to connect this network to our European HQ, we will need in addition 34 mbps dedicated Internet access in one of the above offices (depends on the infrastructure). What are the possibilities? Fiber-optics? VSAT? Other?

Any technical/financial/etc information about any possible solution for broadband access and dedicated internet circuits in these cities will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance.

    Regards,
    Nikolai

Railwire is the only person who is offering 32mbps and the price is cheap too.
But it depends on where your office is.
they are serving internet in marathalli, anand nagar, and mathikere area.

Railwire offers the most affordable solution but they are not available every where. Reliance charges a fortune for providing leased lines.. Airtel may be another possibility but I am not aware of what they have on offer. Besides that Bsnl and Mtnl can also be another option.

Sify offers high speed connections aswell (they provide wireless terminals) but you will need some good bargaining tactics to get their prices lower else you will end up paying a lot of money for installation... give me a shout if you wanna have a look at sify's solutions.

Other then that its best to speak to respective companies to get quotes for your needs and also feasability is another factory.

Its always better to be in one of them SEZ places coz thets the only place where you will find your kind of infrastructure already in place.

If your business depends on the internet connection I would suggest you to have a solid back up plan coz disruptions in service is not anything out of ordinary here

What is the technology behind this 32 mbps? It's not xDSL, nor CaTV. Is it based on some kind of Metro Ethernet Network (MAN) or FTTC/FTTH/FTTB/FTTH technology like PON?

Based on what I heard, they have signed with the cable operators who in turn provides it through copper or fiber to your premises.
call up railwire they might be able to help you as to who is providing through fiber.

I'm reading the latest TRAI report:
The number of Broadband subscribers (with a download speed of 256 Kbps or more) was 4382136 at the end of June 2008. Out of these 3723741 are DSL based; 419028 Cable Modem; 107940 Ethernet LAN; 44870 Fibre; 57023 Radio customers; Leased Line 17878 and 11656 Others.
Could anybody help me find what "Ethernet LAN" means and who are ISPs providing this service?

Ethernet commonly called Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Detection (CSMA/CD). Ethernet works by sending the destination traffic to each node on the segment. Ethernet has a large database of Media Access Control addresses which are generally called as MAC addresses. If the Destination Packet is Assigned for that particular MAC address the data reach to that MAC address and will not go to any other Mac Addresses, this is generally Called as Switching on a shared media.

Some of the ISP using these Techniques are

    1> Spectranet
    2> Hathway

Ethernet LANs in India are providers who provide service to as far as a cat5 cable can reach. This could be extended over multiple unmanaged switches or hubs and I would definitely NOT recommend it for a business if you are gonna network between offices and use VPN. You'd probably get slapped with a private ip address and they are mostly NATs or Masquerading.

With Hathway, it's ip over coax - or docsis 2 as far as I know but you certainly wouldnt want a degradation in performance with the increase in subscribers. VSAT would be way too expensive and if you are gonna use voice over the network - latency and jitters are sure thing.

The best choice would be a dedicated leased line from at least two of the Major ISPs around your areas of business (for redundancy). And when I say major I'm seriously talking Airtel, Tata/VSNL, Reliance etc with a subnet of ip addresses you could use for your internet facing servers - VPN, web, ftp etc. They would have the required infrastructure and support base for your kind of need and the likes of them might already have a package that just fit your needs - Leased Line/IPLC/MPLS etc
