    Talking Bsnl or cable internet?

I have BSNL UL 750 plan which charges Rs.750/month. The local cable internet provider gives unlimited plans at a very cheap rate.Should I go for the cable internet?? I NEED SPEED FOR BULK DOWNLOADS.

ADSL is the best. because, cable internet shares bandwidth. speed is gradually decreases when the number of subscribers are increases. in ADSL, subscribers is not the problem, length between exchange and your home. if you are looking for speed forget cable.

You can try the cable ISP . Most of them do not charge any installation charges etc.
You may have to to buy/rent a cable modem or
Cable ISP may give only an rj45 cable to connect to one system.
    Check these details.
Do not pay annual amount , and have the option to discontinue any time. many complaints about cable ISP's ( hahtway etc in this forum.) Customer care technical matters reportedly poor.

You have wide choice of tariff plans in BSNL.
    .:BB COMBO:.
Home plans with speed upto 2 Mbps give you U/L download
    between 2AM and 8 AM.
Home 750 speed is 512 KBps d/l max 64 KB/sec. What you down load in 24 hours full day and night say 2GBapprox
can be downloaded in 6 Hours with this
    Plan U/L speed upto 2 Mbps d/l max 256KB/sec
( Ideal conditions/ approx calculations. speed may vary as per system/line conditions etc )

Value of an internet connection is not always about the prices. Its more about the kind of service you get for a given price.
For many people BSNL/MTNL works great. But for most it dont. And those most people complain about lazy approach of state-run-ISP's workforce, who dont care if your internet takes a week or three to get fixed. But you still end up payin for all those lost days, so in totality i guess paying bit extra to some other company works out more or less same.
Having said that, if you, by your own experience or those having BSNL/MTNL connection around you say its better than others then for sure you shud give it a try, maybe you are one of those few lucky ones where BSNL/MTNL has rather good network and equally good linemen.

About cable internet providers :- you can catch them anytime you want and can LITERALLY force them to fix your connection issues within 24hours.

Bsnl Broadband is good. BSNL Broadband will not tie up your phone line, allowing you to use the internet and telephone simultaneously. BSNL Broadband can be provided from a dedicated line such as Cable or ISDN, or over the top of our phone line such as ADSL. Low-band Internet access is typically running up to 56kbps using a dial-up modem. Mid-band Internet is a phrase given to dialup that operates at 64kbps or 28kbps. Broadband starts at 512kbps (approximately ten times faster than typical dialup) and is also typically available at 1mbps, 1.5mbps and 2.2mbps. Some companies offer broadband at 4mbps and 8mbps. The maximum possible for example is around 26mbps and 24mbps for ADSL although these speeds are not sold commercially due to the high cost required to upgrade telephone lines to be able to transmit at this speed.

Thanks Glenn for such information. About broadband related queries you can see various broadband plans by BSNL.Our country is undergoing major economic and technological growth and with this high speed internet has not become reality in India. With so many internet service providers and scores of offers, it becomes sometimes very confusing to pick the right internet plan which fits the pocket as well as meets the surfing requirement. www.indiabroadband.net provides relevant information of internet plans to assist consumers in their decision making process.
