Thread: Trying to make Beam Internet Connection Wi-Fi with BSNL Wireless Modem

Hi All,

I had a BSNL connection previously which I used to use before with the wireless modem provided by BSNL.

My Wireless Modem Model is UtStarCom WA3002G4. The one with 4 ethernet ports at the back and an antenna for transmitting Wireless signals.

Now, I have moved to BeamTel internet connection, but I want to still use the Wi-fi option from the BSNL Modem (Router).

Is it possible to use the BSNL Wireless as a Wireless Router to connect all my laptops to the beamtel connection.

Note: I already tried connecting the ethernet from beamtel to the BSNL wireless, but I wasn't able to connect to the internet from my laptop. Is there some settings change that I must do in the BSNL Wireless Modem so that I can use it as a Wireless Router only.

Confirm the OS you use. If Windows 7, your laptop may work
as an AP (Access Point) within limited for Cellphone/s ( wifi enabled) , other laptops with an application called
"Connectify"

You are trying to use WA3002-G4 as a switch .Subject discussed in Reliance forum. ( same problem )

Are you using a cable modem provided by Beam ?
Mention modem/model/make/number.

Try a WIFI router with input to WAN/Internet router .

Do you get any other wifi network in WA 3002_g4 secured /unsecured ?

If BSNL Broadband connection has not been surrendered, get BB ZERO
plan as standby connection . Re1/MB no other charges.

Thanks for the reply.

But I already have got the beamtel cable internet connection and I am able to use the internet if i connect the ethernet wire directly to the computer.

But as i have two laptops I want to use, the BSNL modem/router as a WIFi hub to which both the laptops can be connected.

If I connect the ethernet from Beamtel to the BSNL Wifi, the Wifi gets turned on and I am able to connect to the Wifi network too. But I am not able to connect to the internet if I do that.

Also, I tried using the BSNL Wifi Modem/Router as a switch, which doesn't work too. You too mentioned that it doesn't work. Why is that ? Can any change in the Modem settings (in 192.168..1.1) make any difference ?

Please check your replies item wise.
Only possibility : if you have Windows 7 O.S. + connectify.

In your laptops do you get any other wifi networks secured /unsecured ?
Say your SSID is tushar2289.
and the wifi Icon in laptop/s what is the status?

Though this is possible and does work, when I connect the Beamtel Ethernet to the primary laptop and make it as a WiFi Hotspot. But, this again leads to the problem that I need to keep one laptop ON at all times to make internet accessible to the other laptop and further my primary laptop is also fixed and now I will not be able to move it.

Also, regarding your other question where you asked whether I am able to see other networks. The answer is YES. I am able to see other networks which i believe are from neighbors who stay beside me.

check the range and please give feedback. ( radius wifi connection posssible )

Can not be helped. A system has to be connected to Internet in LAn mode/cable/or 3G modem etc.
A stand alone wifi router ( netgearWGR614V9 etc 0 may accept the Rj45 in WAN/Internet port and wifi may work.

Also, regarding your other question where you asked whether I am able to see other networks. The answer is YES

If they have not used Security code, you can also access the internet
( provided signal strength is good ) and shows your laptop wifi routers are configured properly.
You dont need a wifi router or Beam connect !

Yes. Last para .if the wifi network is unsecured you can also use the same link. You can switch off the wifi router also !

You can try with a Stand alone wifi router (example Netgear wgr614V9) so that both laptops can be used in mobile mode.

EXACTLY the same problem with me ,as Tushar was saying . I need to make the UTstarcom wa3002g4 as wifi router by using the internet from the hathway cable modem MODEL: CISCO DPQ2160 . I use Windows 7 home premium laptop.

And I have used connectify previously but its good only for connecting devices by leaving my primary laptop placed with the modem at one place! But whereas me and I GUESS TUSHAR too needs our all devices to be mobile by making the UTStar modem as access point by making it share the internet from the above said cisco cable modem!!

As mentioned earlier a stand alone wifi router with Dynamic IP selected will work as wifi AP.
Beam cable modem selected for PPPoE mode

Find out the subnet mask of Beam and use the same
if STATIC IP selected :
Ip address : computer's
subnet mask............... ( usually 255.255.255.0)
Gateway: Beam IP 192.168.1.1 ( or as given )
