    Default How can cable ISPs provide unlimited internet at so cheap rates?

    In my area, cable ISPs provide 2 Mbps unlimited without FUP at 699 INR per month, and 4 Mbps unlimited at 1050 INR per month. These are dirt-cheap, as compared with Pan-India ISPs like BSNL, VF, Airtel, Reliance and Tata. How do they sustain their services? I have used cable broadband for 2 weeks, and except for port blocking, there is not any significant disadvantage, as compared with the recognised ISPs.

    How can they provide this?

    Cost of bandwidth is less then Rs7 per GB in India. An ISP can charge whatever they want but they look for the sweet spot where profitability would be maximum and maximum number of customers would be willing to take a connection. Today that spot seems to be around Rs700-1000 and that is the reason every provider is bringing their most popular products within that range.

    With local cable operators the ISP or the bandwidth provider does not have to take care of cables and local infra and that keeps their costs minimal and the cable operator gets his cut out of every connection so he works to the best of his ability. This free labor by cable guy is the key as he wont get paid if he cannot sell connections. It is the cable wala who takes the risk and reaps rewards if he does his job well and ropes in lots of customers.

    Wow, 2Mbps

    I have a 1Mbps connection and I think My ISP use this php however I am happy with my current provider(good speed when data use is not high)

    PHP Code:
    <php?

    $data1 10#GB
    $data2 15

    $limit1 1Mbps;
    $limit2 300Kbps;
    $limit3 Account Expired;

    If {
    $user cross $data1 then set speed to $limit2; } #LOL

    else;
    $limit3;

    ?>

    Does that mean you get 1mbps till 10GB then 300kbps for next 5GB and once you use up 15GB your connection stops working?
