that not totally true. Premium fuel has a higher octane(in case of petrol)/cetane(in case of diesel) values. That means that it would have lower knocking properties, resulting in a smoother drive. It makes a difference only for cars that require it. for cars that run
on 87 octane, putting 89 or 91 wont make much difference at all.
but if a car requires higer octane (like our family cadillac) then putting
lower grade gas will be bad.

That is exactly what i have said. You not feel much difference if it is not required. But, when its required, you should put premium fuel. But, if u ask the maker if it is required, he would probably say yes, because it would "potentially" give better mileage.

PS: could you put up some pics of your cadillac ?

As most of them have stated, premium is required for high-end vehicles for better performance... But,Premium petrol is known to cause less pollution and maintain a cleaner engine through the detergents it contains.If not economically profitable, polluting levels can be considered on a wider perspective..
