Rep Power: 10 | I think unless the manufacturer explicitly recommends premium fuel normal fuel is more than enough. Also there is the psychological reason, when I got a new car long time back I used only premium for the first few years, then a couple of years i used mid and then finally dropped down to low octane till I sold it. -F |

Rep Power: 9 | As per govt. directives, the normal fuel (petrol) comes premixed with alcohol in many cities. however, the premium fuel does not have this and is therefore better for the engine. the premium fuel also contains certain additives that reduce deposits in the engine and can go longer without service. milage-wise I've experienced a difference of about 10% between normal and premium fuels. |

| Platinum Member | I have personally not felt any significant difference using Premium Fuel. I used to fill HP Power or BP Speed in my Santro for the first two/three years. I used to get, maybe, 1 mile extra per liter. That extra mileage did not (does not) offset the extra cost. What I have also heard (and as panchabhut put it), Premium fuel has additives. I also read on another forum that these additives are added to make the petrol burn instead of explode. This (explosion) happens in cars with higher compression ratio (premium cars). The additives also help in cleam burning and thus reducing residues left in the engine chamber. So in my opinion, it is worthwhile to fill premium grade when your running is high. For average to low running (less than 40 km per day), it may not make much economic sense. |

| I rarely use Car, so i ll explain about my bike. I am having Karizma and TVS Victor. The time i took victor this power or speed petrol was not so popular i used to fill in the normal one's and i was getting milage of about 80k's and after 1 year i was getting milage of 75 and i changed to Power petrol and now its 4 yrs old bike and still getting milage over 80. In karizma i get milage around 35 in normal and in power around 40. |

| Senior Member & Mod | There is no diff in normal and premium fuel... the petrol pump props. are doing the trick to make money out of this misconception... premium fuels are costly because they have sania and dhoni in their ads.. |

| ^ I partly agree with what you say... I use regular fuel with my bike. I used to get power 2-3 years back...but lately I can hardly feel the difference between the regular and the premium. |

Rep Power: 10 | If your vehicle runs fine and there no "knocking" then use the normal fuel. Don't worry about engine gunk and other things. If your vehicle needs premium you have to use it. for example I used to have a Kawasaki Ninja and that needed premium fuel. -F |

| It's human nature that when we got new car/bike we tend to fill with premium only, Even i'm doing so, I used to fill normal fuel in my last bike and it was running well, Now when i have new pulsar i always go for premium one... It might not add anything but it gives me satisfaction... |

Rep Power: 3 | Premium fuel have some added additive each and every engine dont benefit from it only few high-end vehicles benefit from it, so its waste to use premium fuel on low-end vehicles, just stick to ordinary fuel. That too in India there is no proper standards followed, too much adulterations are there so why to waste more money for the so called premium fuel...? |

| Gold Member | There are some methods to detect the adulteration in petrol and diesel but how we can identify which is premium and which is normal?? Actually we are paying more for the name of premium?? |

| Senior Member & Mod | Guys both cars(one fed up with normal, other with premium)have to go for servicing at same periods..Bharat mein fuel se jyada tyres par invest karna chahiye. Cause better tyres give better performance here. Roads are nowadays made smooth in India but the tendency of breaking them (by Bsnl guys, Jal sansthans, sever department)giving a good silver to the tyre companies. Whatever you invest in premium fuel should be betterly invested in premium tyres. And gosh i have seen the metros even. Story is same everywhere. So... |

| I think efficiency and other parameters depends more on which company fuel you use more than just wheather its premium or non premium fuel. Btw which company are you guys using ? |

Rep Power: 2 | I read somewhere that premium fuel should only be used if stated by the manufacturer. Also I own Tata Indigo and while purchasing the Showroom executive advised me to use the Normal Diesel and not the premium one.. Even while servicing one some other service center the guy there advised me to use Normal fuel.. |
