Default Changed Cable Operator: What to do with old STB

Hello guys. I am from Kolkata(Kidderpore area)
I had bought 2 set top boxes from my local cable operator(National Cable) which was from Galaxzee. Now with their poor service, i opted to change my cable operator(Hamara Armaan) . When i asked the new operator to use 2 old STBs that i have purchased previously, they told me that I have to buy a new STB from them. They informed me that those old stbs are operator-tied and no new connection from a different operator can be activated in them.
So basically they tell to junk those stbs, which i have purchased. I cant even exchange them or transfer to other relatives. Is it true.? Do i have any option to use those STBs with a new operator? Are they taking me for a ride?

Plz help as the new operator wants me to book a new STB. I want to learn about my options.

That does not solve the issue.

The STB is useless because of CPE non-interoperability.

Sadly this is true - for cable as well as DTH. This means that unless you are willing to shell out moolah for new hardware, you are pretty much tied to the operator. Make a note people - before you jump the gun.

The life of a typical STB is 4 years - of course it may live longer or give away later. At that time, think of switching operators.

TRAI is trying to make the STB interoperability mandatory a rule but it will not be that easy.

sure u can give the old STB to your relatives or friends they can use it, but the thing is that it cant be used with other operators, it will only work with the operators who provided STB. :48:
