Depends on the resolution and quality you expect to play at really... if you are planning to use 19" LCD @ 1440x900 you may use NVidia's 9600 gt... if you want to use 22" LCD at 1680x1050, it would be better to use NVidia's 8800gt...

Generally speaking, 256 megs should be enough for up to 1280x1024. 512megs for up to 1920x1200, 1024+ megs for 2560x1600+... Anti Aliasing also uses a lot of video RAM, so you may want 512m for 1280x1024 if you do a lot of AAs...

I still suggest the 8800GT 512 or 8800GTS 512 - Even though the slower/cheaper 9600GT will blow the doors off... Newer games will need the added speed and memory...

The 9600GT has only 64 Stream Processors compared to the 8800GT's 112 and to the 8800GTS G92 with 128 (the only GTS with 512mb, so less confusing - older ones are 320\640\768mb)...

8800gt would be the best card ....

It gives the best Price vs Performance Ratio compared to any card upto the 9 series ....

    It outperforms 9600gt too

    Look at these Benchmark results

I think the 8800GT is priced at 11K, which is way too high for me. Im looking somewhere in 6K range. Wat abt the 8600 GT 512 MB. And my screen is a 17" widescreen LCD. So my resolution will be 1280 x 720. So will 8600 be good ??

Also I heard something like Palit nVidia Geforce 9000 series which are priced pretty cheap and also has high memory. Wat abt these ??

8600 GT 512 MB will be excellent choice for ur screen & resolution requirements & budget!

Palit scores over many brands in performance... Palit 9600 GT Sonic is quite good...

And, it has a HDMI and Display Port too... All in all value for money...

Only concern is after sales support... Contact ur local vendor to know more about it...

I will suggest you to have a look at Palit ATI Radeon HD3850 512MB DDR3 Super Edition Graphics Card. This will be a little less then 6k and a amazing performer.

No The next best card is 8600gt ..... Go for it , I have used it and can vouch for it .....

look at the cards i have used here

    http://www.indiabroadband.net/videog...-own-play.html

If u want the best price to performance ratio buy either 8800gt or 8600gt

ATI radeon gives very good performance , but they have an inherent disadvantage

--> Many of their advanced functionalities are not supported by many games , so they end up giving inferior graphics ...... If you want a card for gaming and want to keep it for long , buy Nvidia ......

-->Many games say that ATI cards may not support some features n that particular game

9600gt just gives a small [and insignificant boost ] to performance over 8600gt .... but the boost in price is very very significant ..... Thats y i do not recommend 9600gt or any other 9 series card ..... Their Prices vs Performance ratio is very poor

    Make it as 4GB= 2 * 2GB.(1350 RS *2)
otherwise if you bought 3 *1 GB(800 RS *3) then you might not have enough slots to hook up, in some models of DG31.

I just suggested. you may take it on by your budget.

    8600gt is a wise choice...

and I agree with prassannaganesh to go for 4gb ram... 2*2gb way... that way system will perform at optimum cuz it will fecilitate the use of dual channel technology of ur mobo...

    definitely,
go for a motherboard with nforce chipset. I suggest 680 series cause its rock-solid and cheaper too. If u have lot of cash to spare go for the mighty striker extreme 2.
Or else buy XFX 680i ultra SLI motherboard. I know that the SLI feature u wont need (I prefer to use a single powerful card rather than a bunch of cheaper ones : and I dont have lots of cash to buy two powerful cards ) , but it is cheap and boasts of 680i ultra tech. A little lower budget board is 650 based XFX board. Its very powerfull. Nuff said.

Plz suggest a good motherboard at that range.

aus mobos are the best, i myself use M2NE,
but there is a slight problem, Asus with nforce for pentium processors are very costly.
thats why i use amd5000+ and M2NE board.
can u believe that i got a board with copper heat pipe for 7k ( back a year and a half )

Which power supply? Dont expect a decent graphic card to run properly even with 18 amps on single +12 rails with 70% efficiency rate. Take a look at corsair vx450w. 33 amps on single +12v rails with 80% efficiency. The price was 3.5k 3 months ago but now its 3.9k. I always say in many forums- if you cant buy a decent power supply- dont buy a decent configuration.

a decent psu is a definite need for a pc. i use antec500watt.

having said that, if u are going to use 8600gt on the discussed mobo/processor combination, no need to buy a costly psu immediately. it will run just fine on a cheap 450/500 watt psu. then survey the market, unlike graphics cards psu prices vary greatly over different states (dont know why). then find something u like or the one sorcerer mentioned.

if u decide to buy 8800/9600/cards, go buy a 450/500 watt antec/cooler-master/tagan/corsair psu immediately.

Antec and vantec are the best known PSU brands imo.....

Ofcourse without a proper supply u cant run a rig with that config

Also make sure u buy an appropriate UPS .... I mean one with proper Voltage .... Otherwise it ll restart your computer every time there is a power outage [because it is unable to handle the extra Graphic card load]

dude you didnt mention the price for these PSU as they are pretty hefty on your pockets unless you are an enthusiast and have lots of money to burn!!

these PSU are way too costly but they deliver excellent performance as far as i remember the Antec 450 watts power supply retails around for rs 2,250/- the price for rest of the brands is almost the same or may be PSU from tagan are more costly as they sports modular design

Remember performance always comes with a price!! not on a budget ..... lol

p/s i think you should go for the 9 series graphics card as it is more advanced from the 8 series and have full DX 10 support
i am using XFX GeForce 9500 GT 512 MB DDR3 which i got for rs 5,750/-

i said before that i m not familiar with all the psu prices and they vary greatly (upto k's) depending on ur location in India (dont know why this absurdity).

I think antec450 costs much much more than 2250 at least it did a year back.
but its a gem and when using cards like 8800gt, its a must. Cooler master provides budget (around 3k) psu's with gr8 performance. I suggest them.

8600gt far outperforms 9500GT ....... and all cards from 8500gt have direct x 10 support
