Even I would like to know what resolution are blue ray movies... if there are any.

Which lcd tv is needed to play these blue ray disks?

I watched the Jodha akbar HD trailer on the net and I am really impressed with the quality its got... is this what you get on blue ray or is it somethign even better?

Blu-Ray discs are sold in US for $29.99 + tax. At the moment they are costly. Older movies/titles are sold at $15 to $25.

    hmm..... very confusing.
Wiki says bluray resolution is 1080p.
HD is actually a high res movie compressed onto a dual layer DVD.

Blu-Ray resolution is 1080p which is same as True HD.

    SD = 480i or 480p
    HD Ready = 720i or 720p
    True HD = 1080i or 1080i

The 60K model is completely overpriced and has no feature that justifies the price. The 25K model offers the same features and it is also overpriced, in my opinion. BD players should cost no more than 15-17K, IMHO.

PS3 is one of the best BD players. Its gonnda be $299 in a month in the US after a $100 price cut. So expect it to be a bit cheaper.

PS3 sells for 25K in India. I saw that it is marked as region C for BD and region 5 for DVD. I asked the person (in Croma) whether it can play all regions BD/DVD but he was not sure.

    Well, no such decree.

But people in India haven't come to buying DVDs as yet (when they are seeing the sunset soon), BD is a bit off the hroizon.

I buy some 7/8 DVDs during my short visits to US. Even I would be thinking twice to buy BDs at $30 or so each.

Bottomline, they must become cheaper - less that $20 at least.

BDs have nt gone main stream yet ... Even in the US most production houses are playing it safe by releasing their content in both conventional DVDs and BR discs ....

IMO it would take atleast .5-1 year for BD to go mainstream in the US .... In India hmmm it may take 2 years ,like J4k pointed out even conventional dvds have nt got a hold in the Indian market

Recession is nt going to help it settle either

Does Blu Ray have a successful future ? I dont think so. At least not as long as DVD's life time has been.

True, and people in India are more after better quality and top rated things so they will go for something better than DVD, which is BR.

No. It won't. You seem to understand very little of content distribution.

Blu-Ray, DVD, VHS, etc. are just media for content distribution. The media in itself plays very little towards the cost. In fact, if the selling price of Blu-Ray is $30, the manufacturing cost is just $5 or $8. The rest all goes to royalties. The actual cost of the bu-ray disc is not more than a $1.

Not many people know it. Commercial CD/DVD/BD, etc. are not burnt. The film is directly pressed over a blank plastic disc.

Here are some facts supporting the argument. This is not an exhaustive list:
    1. Hollywood movies are sold to make more money for the studios.
    2. Content is encrypted by following methods:
      • Macrovision
      • CCE
      • RCE
    3. The above is methods of content protection cannot be used in flash media
    4. Hollywood studios are owned by Sony/BMG, Warner, 20th Century Fox, etc. They do not support flash media. Then there is RIAA and MPAA. Why even MP3 as a format is not supported or recognized.
    5. Billions of dollars have been invested in Blu-Ray and HD-DVD technology. The players have just come out of a messy format war. They are not going to go into another format so soon.
    6. As such flash media offers no advantage
    7. Note that 15 GB is more than enough to provide full HD content. Single side/DL Blu-Ray is capable for 25 GB which is more than sufficient.
So Blu-Ray is here to stay. At least for the next 6-7 years.

Flash media cannot be used for content distribution....

Flash media were made for temporary storage ... Technologically speaking Flash media allows u to write/erase its data contents many times ... this is the reason its costlier

BUT its also its disadvantage ....Bcuz It also reduces greatly the Life time ofthe Flash memory's contents ... so it is never used for long term storage ....only for temp storage like mobile memory cards , Flash/pen drives , Digi cam memory etc etc
