As ShAdOwCoN also wrote, flash media is prone to erasure because of spike. You can also accidently overwrite the media. The cost of flash media is much more than discs.
That plus the reason that billions have gone into research and development of the next generation media, make it improbable that anything will replace BD for the time being.

Blu-ray's gonna tale some time to pick up in a price-repsective country like India, 12k for a for a Blu-ray player/burner just doesn't seem feasible at the moment for most ppl
a blu-ray player is not just a standalone development.you will definitely need a full-hd capable tv to enjoy it fully.so it comes to a total of nearly 1lac for a blu ray experience!!!
^^^
Wrong!
Blue-ray drives are already retailing around 6k, i saw one in croma
for playing blue-ray you can get a PS3, which comes around 30k. or better use a HTPC.
ANd blank BR disc comes around Rs.200 per disc
wel since when does ps3 come with a full hd screen!!!!!!!!

Some posts of this thread are moved into a new thread: http://www.indiabroadband.net/deskto...c-blu-ray.html (High Definition HTPC with Blu-Ray)
@Gary4gar, This was done because the thread was slowly going in a different direction and I felt that the new discussion merited a separate thread.
@all, Continue discussion on pure Blu-Ray and HD related discussion here. Swing all posts related to rajan's Blu-Ray HTPC to the new thread. Thanks.
