It is Blu-Ray and not Blue-Ray.
I have seen Blu-Ray player at my friend's home in US. Blu-Ray discs are awesome in clarity and sound. What exactly do you wish to know?
the blu ray computer drives are quite expensive at this time... a fall is surely expected, only then will it catch on in india... it has become common in the US though... since the launch of PS3..
Blu Ray players are retailing at sub $200 in US. I would have purchased one during my last trip but US players are restrictive:
a) Play Region A BDs only
b) Play Region 1 DVDs only
Minor issues, though not serious:
c) 110V / 60 Hz
d) NTSC
Hacks are not available for most as yet.

what exactly is blu ray?
it is a next generation storage media in optical format.
It is a successor of DVD and HD-DVD.
it can hold up to 25GB in a single layer of BD. so for now dual layer is produced commercially. so it can hold upto 50GB now.
it can be read and burnt faster than current optical media.
this was mainly developed for support High-definition Format multimedia.
High-definition(HD) is the next generation video format.
Because of its high cost, it was not get support in india yet.
yes it can hold if it is an quad layer BD.
research was progressing now to make further layers.
they say, upto 10 layers can be build upon a single BD but it needs higher processing and producing technology.
If 10 layer is achieved, then a single BD can hold upto 250GB.

That is wrong information.
A single layer DVD can store 4.32 GB of data whereas the a dual layer DVD can store twice as much.
The Blu-Ray disc is capable of 25 GB and 50 GB (SL and DL respectively).
After the DVD, HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs emerged as the strong contenders for storing high definition video (1080p) with hi-fi sound that is less compressed. HD-DVD (promoted by Toshiba) withdrew from the format war last February and now Blu-Ray discs (BD for short and promoted by Sony) is the sole inheritor of the HD media.
To experience High Definition video, one needs to see it to believe it. Visit a Sony World showroom and ask them for a Blu-Ray demo.

As I said, I don't (as yet) :2guns: for it.
Well I used the word "upto" to mean the best case ~ Dual LAYER and DUAL sided disks.
Ofcourse the values are not pin-point jus approximated.
DVD Storage max ~ Wikipedia
Commercial Bluiee Ray has max of 50 gb as J4K specified, but current max is 200gb in labs
Blue Ray Storage max ~ Wikipedia
(scroll down to get details)
currently it is 250GB. just now read the wikipedia.
As it is in wikipedia,
Ritek revealed that they had successfully developed a High Definition optical disc process that extends the disc capacity to 10 layers. That increases the capacity of the discs to 250 GB. However, they noted that the major obstacle is that current reader and writer technology does not support the additional layers.

Does Anybody here downloaded any full version HD movie and watched.
Nope. Reasons:
a) Too big a size
b) No HD viewing capability (laptop is 1024x768, monitor is 1280x1024).
c) Projector is 720p.
I will buy a 40"+ Full HD LCD TV and Blu-Ray player soon - maybe in six months.

this may sound like an overkill, but in CES, they will display BLURAY QUALITY AUDIO(not video) !!!!!(very high bit rate)
Also, a newer version of bluray is coming soon. So dont invest in a PS3 yet.
Its rare to find TRUE HD movies. Most are upscaled versions. But, even the upscaled versions r very very good. I have all 3 LORT in upscaled HD. The quality is brilliant. Its abt 1.7GB each movie. Lot lesser than HD, but still look good on a LCD screen. Also, LG bluray writers are 12k in blore, chk techshop.in, eve there its quiet less.

Are we talking about BD-Writers (for PC) or independent BD players?
