^^^ hehe, i bought pixelview playtv pro3, based on philips saa7130 chipset, 1100bucks off ebay. fully compatible with vista and xp sp2.

u might get it cheaper if u actually go to the market to buy it... i'm very lazy in this regard, but i've got too less time on my hands .

@H@rry i will connect my dvd player to the card and see whats the quality like tomorrow, it will be the closest to a dth service.

k so i dint wait for tomoro since i myself wanted to see how it wud work.

see for urself.

must say the color reproduction is just awesome... the videos are the same quality as they play on the tv

Great quality

I think PixelView is pretty good, will buy one ASAP. Thankyou for helping

Now I need some tech help, what are the hardware requirements I mean which slots(for everything audio+video) do I need & how to check if I have the one needed...What other things do I need to buy with this card, like u were mentioning splitter & cable.

One more thing I want to know, does this card ( or the pinnacle one) support Realtime editing ( or whatever it's called), means I replace channel logo or display some text on the video while recording, so that there is no need to use any video editing tool later ?

PS : The screenshots you posted are not that sharp, is there any option to make video more sharp ?

actually the sharpness is a direct result of the low resolution of a dvd in comparison to a computer monitor.

u need an empty pci slot, a 2 way bnc splitter for the cable (for no signal loss, not if u use dth). a good processor, minimum 2ghz p4. dual core will be much better.... nothing else, a cable plug that goes into the tv hehe.

no that real time thingy is not available...

no other cables, except the coaxial tv cable of course, are needed, everything supplied.

I use pinnacle and I get a very high quality TV recording with it. I upload in youtube often and most people regard that my quality is one of the best amongst TV recording. Its just my advise but I think pinnacle is the best. I love the video quality of pinnacle TV card and I feel it is much better than other TV recording cards I have seen.

I upload my videos recorded with my TV card to youtube. There are many others who do so. But my video quality is regarded the best by many.

The original video quality is excellent on TV recording but I convert it with my video software so that the file sizes are smaller which helps in fast uploading. But even after I compress the video size and upload to youtube it gives a very high quality.

The video quality in youtube can be made very easily. Anyways to judge the video quality and compare with other youtube videos in other channels, you can add &fmt=18 at the end of the youtube video url. It would give the same videos in high quality.

look at this same commercial, that i gave the download link of previously, uploaded to youtube. YouTube - Fiat Linea India TV Commercial High Quality, doesn't it look better than the original file?? this is because it is being converted from a higher resolution to a lower resolution...

this adding of the &fmt=18 at the end of the url will not work for those videos whom the higher quality version is not available. it will depend on the source quality.

furthermore, the quality of the video being recorded depends greatly on the source signal. in my case the quality of the cable is the worst i've ever seen. nearly all of the channels i watch come on the UHF frequency.

My internet is almost down (especially the downloading speed) and so I cannot watch the video. You are right that it depends on the source quality. It also depends the bitrate quality you decide to keep when converting. Youtube also converts the videos to flash and it would also depend on how much bitrate they convert the video file from avi, wmv etc. to flash.

Yes I understand that the quality of the cable has the most impact in the quality of the video. I have some channels with pathetic quality and so I do not record or upload from those channels. But overall the quality in which the cable is telecast is the same as I get in the output of the recording. So, I do not lose quality while recording.

Adding &fmt=18 works on almost all videos irrespective of whether they are available in high quality or not. Only &fmt=6 and &fmt=22 are often dependent but &fmt=18 is not dependent on youtube. I have all my videos in normal quality in youtube but when I add &fmt=18 I can always see a significant improvement in video qualities on most occassions. Just check for all videos and you will see the difference. Of course if the youtube user has uploaded a video in pathetic quality you will hardly be able to make out the difference.

sorry for bumping this thread, but i've got a solution to a problem so its not against the rules.

i made sure to keep the cable away from all electrical appliaces but i thing the problem is coming from the pole itself... damnit.

found what the problem is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_loop_(electricity), How to Eliminate Hum or Buzz

i found one more thing, that the humming is being caused by the shield mesh inside the coaxial. i will try to disconnect it from the cable plug, hopefully that will solve the problem.

i was wrong, disconnecting the shield from the plug took away most of the signal instead of the hum ...
the humm, crackle and buzzing i reported above and was still having, it went away when i removed all my computer's power cords and power strip from the vecinity of the tv cable, moved all the cables to just ~30cm away from the cable tv and my speakers are back to normal.

apparently there was some induction going on in the outer mesh and the centre cable itself by all those AC lines.

peace!
