Then you must be looking at some older/slower data transfer models.
These prices are the latest from amazon for a 16 gb usb drive.

If u have more than 2GB RAM or more, u will see no difference.
If u got less, it may help a bit.

Here is a review on ready boosting:

4 points to be kept in mind.

    1. a branded pendrive

    2. is replacable cuz many people tend to remove the drives without terminating the remove hardware window and the drive gets fucked up.

    4. as soon as u buy 1 check that it actually has the space that u paid for....example a 4gb drive has a capacity of 3.76~ gb.. and drives with higher capacities can sometimes cant hold data to their maximum capacity.they are simply formatted wid softwares which tend to show like 16gb and can actually hold not more than 8gb...

AND LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST>>>

    where's 3??

ya 1 more thing to look out 4.
The cap, preferably should have a design in which it does not come off and get lost.

what ???? 4GB pen drives show 3.76GB etc bcos there is some space used up for formating the drive. So bigger the capacity, bigger the loss.
Also, i think ur confused. Some 8+GB pen drives cant Hold more that 4GB files.
Thats bcos of the format of the pen drive. If ur pen drive/Hard disk is in FAT32 file system, the max file size that can be stored is 4GB, any larger file u will get a drive full error. My 8GB pendrive is formated in FAT32 and i can not change it to NTFS. But on my Hard disk(external) i had the option of changing so i had changed it to NTFS. Warning: Re-formating will lose u some more space.

Actually its because the computer uses a binary system to read data whereas manufacturers of hard drives etc use the decimal system.

    Exactly.
    According to manufacturers 4 GB = 4 x 1000 x 1000 kB i.e. 4,000,000 kB
for computer its 4,000,000 / 1024 / 1024 = 3.81 GB. and some part of it is lost in formatting.

    where u read that 4 GB = 4 x 1000 x 1000 kB
    i guess it was 4 GB = 4 x 1024 x 1024 kB i.e. 4194304kb

    coz the standard unit is 1gb = 1024mb ,,, 1mb = 1024kb

Absolutely. Thats why it never shows 4 GB on the PC.

But, as powerdoc rightly stated, the manufacturers measure in decimal system only. So they make a 4,000,000 kB PD and sell u saying its 4 GB.

Take them to court, if u can.............
