Thread: Usb 3.0

Intel recently demonstrated the all new USB 3.0 at Lasvegas and in theory it would support speeds of up to 5Gbps which is significantly higher then usb2.0 and even firewire.

USB 3.0 will also be able to support power supply and has full duplex support for data transfer as opposed to half duplex in usb 2.0 and as you may already know firewire doesnt support power supply.

According to Intel USB 3.0 will be available in the markets by 2010

Even eSATA is slower by a full 2Gbps as compared to USB 3.0 as eSATA supports speeds upto 3Gbps.

New motherboards again

Forgot to mention that USB 3.0 supports standby as well and will save a lot of battery life on laptops, cameras, mobile phones and other devices we would use it for.

Wow great.. but still what will be the use since harddisk can accept data at a much lower speed, it will still be under utilized

The day of solid state devices is long off...

USB 3.0 was demonstrated in CES(@ vegas), the speeds were a LOT lower than expected. This is not coming to us any time soon.

Also, i have heard that all SSD's have an EOL. So they WILL die soon(may be a few years).

I think he meant that each ssd has a defined life peroid like pen drives...

You might be right. There are too many SSD based devices to cause such a huge change in so less time.

I did not mean it that way. What i meant to say is that ur standard HDD will run for atleast 5-6 Years. But an SSD usually dies in 2-3 years (many reviews abt that, borrowed knowledge )

Ya but still it means if u run ur disk continously for 2-3 yrs oly it may fail in that time whereas most of don't do that. For eg: My 1.5 yr HDD has completed oly 234 days of actual running hrs..

It seems USB 3.0 device would be available from 2011.

Quite simple. There are many reasons but here are few :-

The prices of new hardware are too high. Takes few months for it to come down. Then people starts buying gradualy.

The producs needs publicity. Every one does not subscribe to tech magazines and watch gadget shows. So After the products released ads in local news paper, TV, etc are given. The buyer's friends and retailers talks about them and give recommendations. Then he decides to buy it.

Then theres compatiability issues so it takes time for a product to settle in the market.

not every pc is even 2.0 compatible!! and we are already into 3.0 !! something like firewire that everyone knows but no one uses!!

You cant use USB 3.0 just whenever u want to .... u have to wait for appropriate motherboards to be released by Intel

And New Mobos cost u some hefty Moolah ............ So ppl dont buy it and so are unable to use it .....

I presume, USB 3.0 must be backward compitable, else it would cause lots of problems

i have also only heard that it is being offered.but i have not seen it on the spec sheet on the sites..

As i said before USB 3.0 is not a standalone device

It ll arrive on the market only when Intel releases the appropriate motherboards ..... If u want USB 3.0 u ll have to buy that particular Intel mobo .... doesnt matter if its Alienware or Humanware PC

Intel has not released any mobos with USB 3.0 Tech

Intel is planning to launch it in the second half of this year .... if theres a change of plans they ll notify before hand

i guess these rumours are bcoz of apple's plan to remove the firewire thing from their notebooks nd people start makin guesses that they ll surely offers the USB 3 when it was available.........

i had also heard that usb3 is available with the new macs as an opton.but it was only rumors..
i have confirmed it witht the reseller here.

as well as i also tried for this in Delhi,Jaipur nd in mumbai but it was not available ne where.........
