I have XFX 8600GT. I play most games in 1440 x 900 resolutions. Get Drivers 185.20 (not available at nvdia.com yet) to improve performance.

    Drivers :-
GeForce ForceWare 185.20 XP 32-bit download from Guru3D.com

What a coincidence. I too have iBall 400 Watt smps. I also have Dual Core processor (not Core2Duo). Everything runs fine.

Please Go for 9 Series GPU (or rather wait if you are low on budget). But you'll need to upgrade your SMPS in that case.

It is easy to find the rating of the power supply. There will be a sticker on it.

If the power supply (SMPS) rating is 350W or above, you are fine.

As already stated by thats me go for the 9 series graphics card as i have one (9500GT) as it comes loaded with 512 MB GDDR3 memory so by now you already must have got an idea what i am trying to say

Now it comes to the SMPS thing or you can simply say the Power Supply Unit (PSU) all the manufacturers except the reputed ones like Antec, VIP, Corsair, Coolermaster, Tagan(that all i can remember for now) all the other are just piece of shits but however they do their work nicely

Now it comes to the rating always go upwards than 400 W as 400 watts is a norm these days BUT the main thing if you ever measured the supplied voltage from the manufacturers like i-ball, frontech, intex etc etc they supply incorrect voltages especially the 12v rails(the which is broader and goes into the MoBo) those are main but they are not precise in supplying the voltage so that causes problem sometimes with the high end components and shortens the life span of your PC!

    Nope.
You will need a better powersupply from preferably from Cooler master, Antec, or any other good standard brands. Local brands are not recommended.

as shadow has said b4, it really does not matter at what resolution u play.
Plz send in ur complete specs of ur rig in which u plan to install ur 8600GT.

I have a HD4850 i too play on 1280X1024. But due to my sad ass processor, i cant even play crysis on high. So what i mean is go for a balanced system.
Or if ur planning to upgrade in the near future, go for a good card and then upgrade the rest of ur rig.

I m totally sick of telling that BUY 9500GT NOT 8600GT. 9500gt is faster than 8600GT !!!! Costs the same !!!

Now, to tell u the harsh truth, even if u get the 8600GT or 9500GT, u will not be able to play most of the new games @ high @ 1280*1024.
    PLZ see this:
    http://www.indiabroadband.net/deskto...-round-up.html (Budget Gfx card round-up)

    IF U WANNA GAME AT THAT RESOLUTION GET A MINIMUM 9600GT(Rs 5850) OR EVEN A ATI4850(RS 8800) !!!!

I have taken prices frm :
    TheITWares - Graphic Cards

    Both are in ur budget.

    No u dont get a pci-e connector.
If u do not wanna change ur PSU get the Palit ATI 4670 super (Rs 5250).
It does not require a pci-e connector. It consumes 8W @ peak more than the 8600GT. So it should run smooth with no problems.

can u plz tell me how much the 9800GTX+ is gonna cost frm the place ur gonna buy ???The lowest i have seen is 11.5k.Don't go 4 8800GT as the 4850 costs almost the same(and does better).
I must warn u abt a few things.
The 9800GTX+ is a dual slot card.
    It requires 2 6pin pci-e power connectors.
So get a good cooler master or corsair psu.

also, try to OC ur processor.

buddy i know al about the GTX+. It was released to counter the 4850. On an avg its 2-5% faster than the 4850 at 1280*1024. So, at the same price its a better option. But in india, it costs 2k more than the 4850. Also, it requires 2 6pin pci-e connectors. Hence, u could go 4 an 4850 with a non ref design(asus has a few in india). That way it would be faster, cooler and have lower power consumption. Think about it.

ummmm...am i the only one endorsing ATI here, imo they pawn Nvidia for every release, and for every thing the green ppl put out they unlesh a red beast on them, it wont be long untill a reply to the GTX 295 comes about...but really graphics for budget gaming, i'd reccomned ATI, and at abt 10k you could get the HD 4850 which is a very very GOOD card!

Buddy i m an ATI fanboy too. But try not to be biased.
NV has some good stuff too.
Infact the thing i like the most about the 9800GTX+ is that it supports Hybrid power !! My 4850 currently does not support that. But it will with the release of the SB800 i guess.
