I was planning to connect my TV to my comp using HDMI. My GFX card has a 7.1 chip on it. I wanted to know if it would provide sound through HDMI ?? I m using a DVI to HDMI converter that had come with the card.

hmmmm i guess i did not make my problem clear. I m using a DVI-HDMI adapter. Now DVI cant send audio right? Hence, will the HDMI lose audio ? also, can i get a cheaper chord ??

TV's do not have a 7.1 channel sound processor. So even when HDMI is connected, the digital sound is processed as normal stereo. The surround options in TV are simulated surround.

lol u try to use ur HDMI port and i bet u it wont giv u audio. U wanna know y ?? Cos on a 9800GTX, u need to connect ur onboard audio to ur gfx card first(via some connector) and only then will u get audio. I have a 7.1 chip on the card. But ATI cant do such a blunder right ? I mean if only DVI is there, that chip is useless, right ?
