    Default Need help with HDMI

I was planning to connect my TV to my comp using HDMI.
My GFX card has a 7.1 chip on it. I wanted to know if it would provide sound through HDMI ?? I m using a DVI to HDMI converter that had come with the card.

hmmmm i guess i did not make my problem clear.
I m using a DVI-HDMI adapter. Now DVI cant send audio right? Hence, will the HDMI lose audio ?
also, can i get a cheaper chord ??

Yes. DVI does not carry sound. It is an older technology and was meant for computer monitors only. So tough luck there.

But you can use analogue sound cables instead. TV's do not have a 7.1 channel sound processor. So even when HDMI is connected, the digital sound is processed as normal stereo. The surround options in TV are simulated surround.

Your 7.1 channel sound is useless without 8 speakers (2 front + center, 2 side, 2 rear plus sub-woofer).

I am not aware of two types of DVI connectors. Need research on that.

Correct me, if I am wrong. But your PC's sound card is just providing coaxial digital out or 7.1 SPDIF out. You need to connect those outputs to an amplifier.

all this time i was talkin abt my gfx card, not sound card. That has a 7.1 chip on it. I have a 5.1 on board too, but the rear speaker jack does not seem to be working.

lol u try to use ur HDMI port and i bet u it wont giv u audio. U wanna know y ?? Cos on a 9800GTX, u need to connect ur onboard audio to ur gfx card first(via some connector) and only then will u get audio. I have a 7.1 chip on the card. But ATI cant do such a blunder right ? I mean if only DVI is there, that chip is useless, right ?
