    Default Need PCI slot fans

    Hi guys,
my HTPC case just has 1 fan and i m planning to put my hot 4850 in it. I was looking for more options to cool my case. I figured the only way was PCI slot coolers as there is no provision for more fans. Can some1 plz tell me where i can buy a few of these frm ?

Plz suggest some ways to cool my system better.

which cabinet do u have, good suggestion would be to get a sufficiently ventilated cabby. as for cooling thing, check here if u find something useful
    TheITWares - Printers & Scanners

btw did u try the fanfix for 4850? (google it), also i would suggest to apply aftermarket cooler for ur 4850 if it's getting too hot.

i did use the fan fix. I set it to 40%. First few months it was ok. It used to idle at 60.....Now i have set the fan at 60% and it idles at 78-80.

Well, the cabinet i chose is the zebronics Pluto.
I would not mind an after market cooler for the 4850, but i cant find one.

PS: My 4850 Has a HUGE amt of dust on it(near fan). Could that be the reason its running this hot ?

If you put too many fans in the HTPC, it will become very noisy and will spoil the fun of movie, especially in quiet scenes. Also the constant hum/buzz will be irritating.

Does your box get too hot? Is an extra fan really required?

well the temp inside gets to abt 30C when outside temp is 20C. But the card at 80/90C in idle/load will not damage/harm anything naa ?

Does the thick layer of dust on the fan has anything to do ??? should i clean it ??? if yes, how?

You can clean the dust inside the box by using a low power vacuum cleaner. Thick dust is a big no-no.

Also ensure that PC has sufficient ventilation.

hey i dont have a low powered vacuum cleaner. Wat other ways are safe to clean with ?

Btw is it an easy task removing the cooler frm the card or is it not advisable for noobs like me ?

Leave the cleaning of internal parts to the technicians...unless you're sure what you're doing.
Had a bad experience using the vacuum cleaner to clean my PC once

Is your PC an assembled one.You can ask the guys who assembled it for you.
    Otherwise any PC servicing shop.
They use a small blower thing to clean off the dust.

remove ur GFX card, use a soft cloth and a divider(or a needle) to clean off the dust after cleaning blow vigorously from ur mouth on the fan. and yeah that heap of dust collected on the cooling fan of the gfx card maybe the reason for it to become so hot compared to the earlier months.

is there so much risk in cleaning your pc yourself? you dont need to call the assemblers for this. use your vaccum cleaner blower to blow the majority of the dust out first - mainly from the heatsink. then use some cloth or soft brush to clean the parts gently ...

Its a joke if you dunno to clean ur Cabinet .... Its really that easy .....

This is the cleaning kit i use

--> A hand blower ...costs less than 100rs

--> A Brush with soft bristles

    --> A Washed soft dry cloth .....

--> Colin [spray for the outer sides of the cabinet and monitors]

    -->Gloves [optional]

No sharp objects should be used while cleaning

1.Clean the inside components like motherboard ,gfx cards , fans etc using the blower and brush [very light touch] to dislodge the dust .....
2.Use the cloth to wipe out the dust on the inside and outsides of the cabinet
    ...
Yes ...dust leads to more heating up of the components

Unless u do not even no to open your cabinet , you should not feel shy about periodically opening it up and cleaning it ......

    Cooling

Use a thermal paste ...it does significantly bring down the temperature

Keep a good distance between the wall and your CPU [whichever side your fan is present]

use Artic Silver 5(or AS5 MX2) as thermal paste, it's awesome. also apply a thin layer of thermal paste as opposed to applying thick layer, also when u have removed the heatsink clean off the dust settled on the heatsink and the fan(better u remove the fan and then clean up everything).
before applying new thermal paste, do clean ur old thermal paste on both CPU and and the heatsink using some thermal paste remover.

i live uhhh...in Mumbai(easiest way to say rather than Thane, which is not in Mumbai but not far either)
and dude, HSF removal and all other cleaning the "PC" stuff is easy, even i didn't do any course in hardware and all, i just took risks and well so far the risks paid off well(before taking the risks i do research a lot in the internet of course )
so just follow some online guide on maintaining/cleaning PC and u should do well, or do the first clean up by a mechanic and either record the whole process or watch the whole process with ur eyes peeled on every move mechanic is doing.
btw, heck, i even changed thermal paste on mah GPU for the first time the last time i cleaned my PC, and removing the heatsink of GPU was pain in the FINGURES :P

I guess i will let the mechanic do it first and then i will do it later when ever needed.

preventing dust is not possible. u can clean dust or restrict them upto an extent. using hand blower for cleaning dust is the best way.

can anyone here suggest me where can i get a hand blower from? anything in ebay? i used to use the blower of my vaccum cleaner .
