i found sony DVD drives very good at my friends place....she is using it from last 3 years.......BTW what Drive you use(brand)......

mine is sony dvd rw dru 710 a , i didnt used it much,but first the drive didnt reconize cds and later its stopped reconzing dvds

it stopped working after the warranty expired and i search online for the feedback of this drive and many had faced same problems and its the fault of the drive

have you tried cleaning the lense. you can use lense cleaning discs with some cleaning solutions.

the 810a was the best sony drive, then the optiarc 7200, both kind of legends! 810 was made by benq.

yes the lens cud have dust... a simple cleaning operation might get it up and running.

i think HP drives are also very good in reading and writing long lasting........

by looks and initial service 810a was surely very good. i am still using it somehow. but this drive causes lot of problems. the tray mechanism defects are faced by many.

you guys know what the 810a model was the 2nd dual layer writer from sony..........it completly follows the 800a model.....but there are very few changes are there in both of them....like read/write speed,updated software and better media compatibility............

yes, but sony dru 810a non DL writing speed is very average ...

ya it was 16x... but the quality of writes was out of this world.

U could have given it for replacement/repair during the warranty period ..

actually back when this drive came out there were mostly pata comps like mine... whats happenin is that i can't even burn at more than 8x with my 22x drive (single layer) today :lol:... so u can see it wudnt have affected me , and it doesn't affect me till date.

hehe .. i recently wrote a dl disk at 2.4x... took about half an hour i think... had a coffee n a nice time till it was over :lol:

so a slower speed promotes a better time, so why not take it slow ... though the cigs for you meant a more harmful time for you.

no yaar i love to smoke......and now everytime i'm burning my single layer discs at 4-8 X only......
