Depends on your opinion actually ....

In another thread many people said that sony drives don't last long so u may wanna wait untill u get views from others.

IMO most of the features u mentioned are available in all the standard drives (correct me if I am wrong). Even samsung SATA drives costs 1200 when i bought recently.

Just curious - do you actually use DVD-RAM. I've never seen one..

i got this drive for INR 1081/- .. its very good for single layer media but just sucks with dual layer (does not suck too much though, update here (new SONY dust proof Drive in INDIA)... but i'm happy with it... its a bit noisy... but its fast....

also my previous sony dru 810a is still working after 3yrs... just its tray mechanism gave way after some mishandling.

yes i have used verbatim +r dl, thats why i wrote that... i got 3 for 250 bucks off ebay.

the discs are readable very well no doubt. but when u look at the disc scans then it shows high amount of pi errors on the second layer.... but it won't affect normal storage.

u know if u ignore this one aspect then its a very good drive,

the tray is specially light and has reduced plastic, so the load/eject times are very fast. overall i'm satisfied...

One of the queries which came to my mind while reading this thread today.

Is a dust proof drive necessary? What will be effect of this dust-proof label in the productivity of this drive? Any explanation given in the device manual?

well over the years dust does build up inside the drive due to the type of vacuum created by a high speed spinning disc. so it does get on the lens too,

with this drive u can rest easy as u won't need to use those lens cleaning discs that are available in the market... nothing else...

the effect wud probably be that every brand wud start writing this term on their products ...

Pioneer DVR-S16FXB also features the same.

    Anti-dust / Noiseless
DRA and Anti-dust tech minimize the noise under 42dBA; through the new Anti-dust design, an improved chassis insulation aids in the protection of the drive's internal components from dust and small particles that can hinder the drive's operability and life span.

Thanks for the info btw @StarryKnight

I dont think sony DVD writers are the Best. They reject more cds or dvds as compared to other brands. I got my sony writer 2 times after that i got it replaced from my dealer by LG due to this reason.

i have been using dru810a for the last 2+ years and its still working fine. though i use it as an external drive now using usb cord. the tray mechanism is problematicat times. i manually need to push the tray, the button doesnt work some times in case of ejection
