pls start a separate thread and please give more details - make/cost etc

I'm of the opinion that the pen drive maybe of chinease make, in which case you are out of luck.

    @ Np

just went through the link, but that procedure is really pain in the neck to buy some stuff just for one use and that too touching the sensitive parts of the disk and trying to recover it,

I too will ask a few of my friends who are PC Service engineers here and will update it soon.

Thanks, i'm eager to know all about it. I jus wish that if the pictures in those links were working it would have been somewhat easier.

well in dec/jan a problem in seagate drives was indicated world wide, and that time i checked with seagate website and they said this model was not affected. But dhanno used to tell me that even my model may hav been affected.

Well u must have surely come accoss software problems in mobiles, where they harg or restart inexplicably, its just the same.

Bhai, replacement is hardly the issue. Problem with h/w guys is that they give no gaurantee for DATA, only free hardware replacement is provided. Right now ALL my data is in THAT drive

Oh god.. Ok ok.. Its tough time man.. Once u get ur data back than i think u will can go to company ppl and get it replaced free right??

And u know even i was planning to get a hdd 500 gb or something.. I dont know the company.. But its was ok he told me the company may be watever but the ultimate hdd inside is of seagate.. But i was not ready to spend tht much money so i dint buy.. But once upon a time just recently i was thinking when i wanted to format my pc.. All drives.. Tht i wish i could have a hdd it will be the safest for data.. I mean backing up or restoring while formatting wont be a problem.. But now looking at such condition i dont think there is any means where we can say data is stored safely..

its true that HDD can be unpredictable at times, like my previous Hitachi HDD failed within a week, i was lucky not to have any data on it.

Thing is that failures happen in all models. If u wanna backup data, then tape drives are good, but very expensive and huge too.

    P. S ; wat is tht tape drive now??
that unfortunately is the situation.since all manufacturers do the same thing, we are helpless

What Np said is true, My HDD 500 GB Seagate failed in 2 months and i sent it for replacement and at that time i was very rude and shouted at them etc for my data loss, so they in compensation sent me a 1 TB HDD, this one is working fine till now but when i checked in net this version is also affected and i dont know if when i got this drive company has updated the firmware or not.

Yes now no media can be said as SAFE, see my fate how it is,
Last week suddenly my handset software got Kaput and nothing was working just Nokia it would come at startup and thats all. So the treatment was to format it, ok i did it and as soon as it was formatted and i inserted my SIM the SIM also was corrupted and i tried in different handsets still when i inserted i would get the message "Insert SIM" again got the SIM replaced now working fine but as both my handset & SIM are formatted i dont have a single phone number now...!

So not i am back to original writing phone numbers in Physical paper Diary...
