Blu-ray are priced aroud US$ 30 or Rs. 1500 (new releases) . At the moment they are costly. But I am expecting a price drop of 20% in the future as more people adopt and adapt Blu-Ray.

Six to eight months after the release, the price starts dropping (Disney price drop is much less as compared to other).

The problem is (even in US), the ratio of hit movies to flop movies is 1:10. Studios loose a lot of money on the flops and they try to compensate it by earning maximum profits on the hits. Going to the cinema is very expensive. The ticket costs anything from $10 to $12 in California ($17+ for IMAX). A typical family of four cannot afford to go to the movies (and most American families are larger). New DVDs are $20 to $25 (plus 9.25% tax) while Blu-rays are $5 more.

We all feel the pinch. But studios also have the right to make money. They are not compensated by public when they loose.

The question is: by dropping the price, will the studios be able to sell more items and thus make more money? My sincere belief is, "Yes".

^^ That explains y so many people buy dvds in the US, but not many in india go and get original stuff.
I just hope in the next 1 year, prices reach Rs800-900 ish.

    Not necessarily true.

    1. I think most people here rent DVDs/BDs.
    2. Quite a lot of them use pirated stuff also.
    3. Many people look for bargain discs. At Walmart, for instance, there is a big box where all (worthless) DVDs are dumped and sold for $5.
