| Unplug the data and power cable from the drive, insert again and try. If it doesn't work, you may need to send it for repair. |

Rep Power: 2 | If its within warranty then send for repair as said by meetdilip My advise to you is :- 1) for writing failures change the brand of media and try. It almost always works. But you need to try a whole lot of different brands. 2) Update the firmware (USE EXTREME CAUTION or dont do it) I used to have similar problems. I updated the firmware and the problem was solved. If your DVD writter is is more than 3 years old, then time to buy a new one. |

Rep Power: 2 | the only solution to do it is Update The Firmware, i have Sony DRU-170C DVD-RW, i never read anything besides CD's and Dual-Layer Digit DVD's. So i repatched my frimware and it worked, also if u don't repatch the Firmware use Windows Vista or Se7en, it reads the DVD's, without repatching the Firmware. |

| Platinum Member | If you confident of doing this (and only if you are confident): - Try cleaning the lens manually - open the drive - clean the lens with a very soft tissue paper or chamois leather (if available) |

The optic laser in the lens tends to get weak after a period of time, I've also had same kind of problem of getting DVD not getting read but cd's are working flawlessly,if ur writer is in warranty then ur laser assembly will be changed, cleaning the lens with bare hands with paper etc is risky slight force on lens holding coils can misaligned the lens easily and also rubbing paper on polycarbonate type lens generates a static charge so i suggest clean the lens with proper DVD clean disc which comes with anti-static brush. | |
