Thread: Which Hard Disk Should I buy ?

Hello friends my 40 GB IDE Samsung HDD(5 yrs old) has become very slow. I tested it with some software and it showed 2 failed S.M.A.R.T. values.

I want to buy a new Hard Disk.Can you give me some suggestions ?
The HDD should meet the following requirements.

1.Speed:It should be SATAII
2.Realiability:Should last at least 4 years.
3.Size: 250GB+
4.Cost:Should be cheap....I mean low price per GB.

Please suggest me some good models :helpsmilie:

1) You will get HDDs of any brand(Samsung, Seagate, WD) etc with SATAII support.

2) Reliability:- No one can guarantee that a particular HDD will last for 4 years or 5 years. Depends on the usage and luck. But, HDDs fro mall these companies come with 5 year warranty these days.

3) You can get HDDs of 250gb, 320gb, 500gb, 1TB.

4) Price is almost the same for all these companies. These are cheap.

In case of HDD - you dont have much to choose from if you plan to buy a cheap one.

seagate 7200.12 5000GB is very good hard disc.its advantage is it just got 2 platters of 250GB each meaning lesser power consumption & temperatures compared to other hard discs.in Delhi its price is ~3000 at nehru place.
