    Default PC Configuration help ?

    Hey !

I'm gonna be building a PC sometime in end December or January. My budget will be something like 30k. I know prices will drop by then BUT i'd like to have an opinion on what base-line specs i can expect in that range.

I already have a 24" Monitor , ODD , HDDs so i can skip on those....

Looking for a quad core configuration coz currently Core i7 Proccs with Mobo are VERY VERY expen$ive.....

Will Core i5 be better than current Quad Core Processors ???

Usually, latest processor definitely betters in performance. The question is about affordability and use.

well they should hopefully be more affordable than the Core i7's .. The cheapest i5 is said to be ~$200 ie Rs. 10,000 .... Factoring mobo costs... this solution will still end up over 20k NOT factoring in GPU , PSU , Case , RAM , Misc. costs....

Hmmm... Quad Core should be cheaper by then though...

Buddy, do remember other issues that come with a new platform.

First off, even after the corei5 is introduced, the motherboards need to be ready.

They will take at least 4-5 months to fix various errors, a couple of BIOS updates would also be required. Memory compatibility and other issues are also possible.

Another factor, would be cost. Even if intel gives a suggested retail cost of $200(or Rs10,000), in india only a few stores will get it fast, they would sell at a much higher cost(say Rs14,000 or so). Same applies to motherboards. All P55 motherboards i have seen yet are high end motherboards. They will cost a bomb too. Dont expect the Corei5 to be cheap. Bcos, intel has stopped the production of the core i7 920. Y?? Bcos they wanna give a bigger price gap between core i5 and i7. So, the i7 prices will start at $450 or so. Intel(like others) wants ur money !

Also, i had read a performance preview of the core i3(3.06GHz,2 cores,4 threads). Its gaming performance was almost same as an E8400. Expected cost was $123.

So, my point is, this is probably a good time to buy a new PC.
Get an AMD Phenom 2 720X3. Get an AM3 motherboard. Put some DDR3 on it, onboard video is also decent.Put a good cooler on it. Overclock it. If ur lucky, u may even get the 4th core unlocked and u will get a quad core.

Hope i have made things clear.
