which laptop is it? i suggest u take a look at Computer Warehouse Online - Buy Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Accessories, Laptops and Electronics which gives a good reference, may be slightly different for Delhi.

like i said, it depends on the laptop also...my (pretty old) Dell inspiron 6400 requires RAM that is being sold at extortionist prices by Dell atm! 2800 for 1 gig! this might be the case for 667 MHz RAM in general...

Default Ram card engineering - from munsif ali-pakistan

I am munsif ali from pakistan. I have an omni tech desk top computer with 650 MHZ processor, bios version Intel Corp. 4J4NB0X1.86A.0042.P19, system model: OTC-9000D01BX, computer version: x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3.

we normally do not talk about engineering aspects, nor we do experiments with computer circuit boards. Now a days in P4 computers , DDR rams cards are being used. these ram cards having the same size are similiar to the ram cards I am using , but do not fit into sockets of my mother board, because of one fix point in these ram cards. where as in my P-3 computer the ram card has two fixation points between the data cache terminals. Now I would ask questions from engineering perspective.

01- Did any body ever try to use DDR Ram card having one fixation point between data catch terminals into the motherboard sockets of computer which use ram cards having two fixation points between data catch terminals.

02- how many terminal points ram card use. In case if both types of ram card use the same number of terminals , then can I do a little hard work on those DDR rams which do not fit into the socket of my computer. I will take an out of order ram card having two fixation points between terminals, which fit into my computer, I will cut its above portion where chips are installed, and take tiny wire connections from it, and join them to DDR ram card terminals. Later the cut off piece of ram card will be fixed into socket.

All right, if it does not produce result, then wether I can do the same experiment with my types of ram cards . I will do this experiment in a case, where two of my ram cards socket has gone out of order because of physical damage to mother board, and for a one socket , I have two ram cards each 128 MB. Due to some situations, I can not go to market to buy 356 MB ram card. but i wanna do my experiment. Now I would repeat the same engineering experiment, i.e I will join both ram cards terminal points thru tiny wires, so that I can hold them in my hand or place them anywhere on computer. Later the wire connection would be joined to one cut off piece of ram card, and that cut off piece of ram card will be fixed into functional mother board socket. Now the question is , wether both rams cards of 128 MB will be functional . and my computer will start to produce normal results.

Thanks for taking time in reading my engineering suggestion.

not really sure on the price though..but i guess its more cheaper if its second hand or something..but if you want a new one then expect for a higher price..how much is your budget? but i am in your shoes id rather buy a new one..
