    Lightbulb Universal Remote

    I have a TV, SAT STB and a DVD Home Theater all have their on remote, some times its really frustrating to handle all of them at a time and the way it occupies the space on the coffee table.

    So i was thinking of purchasing a Universal Remote which will do the work for all three, i have no experience of a one so thought of having expert opinion before going for one.

    Please consider my range is up to Rs. 1500/-.

    I will like to have opinions from those who have it or have experience of using it with Pro's and Con's if possible.

    I tried many universal remotes (3 in fact) and did not find them satisfactory.

    1. The first one was very cheap (about $20) and it could operate my Sony VCR and BPL TV but it did not have the codes for my Onkyo (TX-DS747) AV receiver or LG 29" TV.

    2. The second one was little more expensive at $50. But it was also not satisfactory. And it was not compatible with DishTV STB.

    3. The third one was given to me free by a friend and it was also not satisfactory.

    All of the above could not operate my projector (Panasonic PT-AE700E)

    The main problem with these remotes is that they support the most basic features only (Play, Pause, FF, Rewind, Next/Prev, Vol ±, Channel ±). But they do not support advanced features which you wish to use.

    Finally, I took the demo of Logitech Harmony 1. At $250, it was really expensive. But it was completely worth it.

    Logitech Harmony One

    10/10. Highly recommended.

    LOL. It is not that I am canvassing for Logitech products. They are genuinely good. I have purchased two mice (MX Revoltion / VX Nano), Two webcams (Pro 9000 and Orbit Pro), some headsets and the Harmony one. I also get 50% discount because my friends are employees/contractors at Logitech.

    @deepmohan,

    I guess that the products I suggested are very expensive. But then, it is better that you don't spend more than Rs. 1000 on such a remote. Save the money for later. My sincere advice is not to spend money on "half-baked" goods.

    I am not really using a universal remote..but i guess its a good idea to use one..well I suggest that you buy a universal remote depending on the brand of your appliances that you have..and its better if it is an original one..I had scrolled the responses above and its for you to decide which will fit on your budget..
