Thread: Fake Nvidia Graphics cards

In recent years, there have been lots of reports of fake graphics card being sold in the market. These are basically low end graphics cards that have a modified BIOS to show that they are some high end GPU. Recently, a friend of mine had got a 9600GT from this place called cost to cost in Nehru Place. He was not satisfied with its performance so he asked if something was wrong. When i had a look at the GPUZ screenshot, it was clear, it was a fake and he was cheated. He had paid Rs4000 for it and the shop refused to replace it for him. They said nothing is wrong and said he could do nothing about it.Here is a picture of the box of that card, just see, no branding , no specification , nothing !!

So, if any of you will be buying a new graphics card, please be carefull. Please pay some Rs500 extra for a decent brand instead of these no brand fakes.

My friend had reported this to Nvidia, but no word from them as of now.

The first screenshot is pretty clear that there is no brand name on the box, etc.

But I could not make out anything from the second screen shot.

i think he gave the 2nd screenshot because he wnated to tell us that although the configs r right, the screen looks dull.

The specifications shown by GPUz prove that the card is a fake. It is not a 9600GT as the specifications do not match (shaders, bus width,ROPs,etc). The card was actually an OEM 8600GS, which have a modified BIOS (name change etc) which just shows the card as 9600GT.

and what is Sapphire and XFX and all?

these are GOOD brands. XFX, sapphire, MSI, Gigabyte, power color, are all good brands. Just have a look at newegg for some customer reviews.

newegg doesn't ship in India.and ebay and rediff doesn't have the 5770.

If you are in delhi, i suggest you buy from SMC in Nehru Place.
