    Default Best media player ?

Windows media player is compatible and plays all sorts of media, winamp is good too, there are others like divX, zoom, real player and many more. But for me VLC player is the best just because it can open any and every type of video, its free and very stable too. There are a lot more things you can do with vlc and it has so many codecs. VLC player is available for atleast 10 operating systems, is light weight and does not cram your system recourses, overall display quality looks great, customizable and snapshots are taken well too
VLC media player is a also available as portable multimedia application supporting various formats like MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, DVDs, VCDs, etc…
My experience with VLC is so good that I can even pay for it ! You can also use VLc as a media converter and a streaming media server too. It is skin able reads from webcams, tuners and very ultra simple to use. This is my default media player and I have yet to discover a video format which will not open with vlc !
VLC media player is a must have and a fantastic application, if haven’t used it yet, then stop reading, download it now ..!!!

VLC doesn't support .flv format used in flash videos, I like vlc, but I use k-lite mega codec pack, with WMP it play everything, I also use GOM, which also good...

VLC is almost the defacto choice - it just about plays anything.

However for playing DVD files on HDD (.IFO), I prefer PowerDVD.
