Buffalo seems to be one of the few companies that has really been producing some great and innovative products. They have now rolled out the SHD-PEHU3 series of portable solid state. So, whats new with these drives ? Apart from being SSDs, these use the latest USB 3.0 bus. With speeds up to 244MB/s these for sure are one of the fastest drives around.
The drives measure 97 (W) x 57 (H) x 12 (D) mm and weigh just about 66 g. They are backwards-compatible with USB 2.0 and USB 1.1(well, why would you do that and ruin it?). It comes bundled with a data encryption software. The SHD-PEHU3 is offered in capacities of 64 GB, 128 GB, and 256 GB; priced at $282(what!!), $510(damn!!) and $1,079(ouch!!), respectively, in the Japanese market. They shall be available by the end of may.
While they are definitely not cheap, $1000+ for a 256GB drive, but the performance it gives, its only for the enthusiasts. It may seem that SSDs are far far too costly for most, but since this segment is gaining pace, it seems like it won't be long before we have SSDs which have higher capacities at a lesser cost,
