nVidia has introduced the GeForce 3D Vision - an accessory for 3D gaming.
The package contains one pair of 3D glasses, a small IR transmitter, the required cables, software, carry pouch, three nose bridge pieces and a bright green cleaning cloth.
Obvisously, the most important and fascinating object of the package are the 3-D Vision glasses. These glasses work on the principle of active shutter. Depending whether AC frequency is 60 Hz (NA) or 50 Hz (Europe/APAC), the glasses must be paired with a monitor of double the frequency, i.e. 120 Hz or 100 Hz. The active shutters block the left and then the right eye vision alternatively. So effectively, we see two different frames by the two eyes.
So the question everyone will ask, "what will make my system 3D capable?". The answer is, one will need a 100/120 Hz monitor and at least an Nvidia 8800GT card or equivalent or higher card. This is the main problem as there are not many monitors that support this sync frequency. One of them is the Viewsonic VX2265wm.
The package also comes with the drivers CD. The drivers can be installed in less than 5 minutes and requires no special tweaking. Thus in 5 minutes we are good to enter the world of 3D games. The glasses include an IR receiver and an USB connector for charging where a complete charge gives you a total of 40 gaming hours.
The nose bridges is a brilliant idea. As I said before, there are 3 pieces in the box. Most likely one of them will suit you.
The IR transmitter has a scroll wheel placed that will allow adjustment of the 3D depth.
nVidia claims that over 300 games are compatible with this system with Resident Evil 5 being the most compatible of the lot.
Price: Rs. 11,000 or therabouts. A tad expensive but if 3D is what you are looking for then go for it.
