You don't think they are going to let you get away with not using any coloured ink?

However, here's a hint: go to your printer properties and see if you can find print greyscale as an option somewhere. This works for me on my Pixma 5000: it is printing in black even thought the colour tanks are all empty.

But: it will not remember it as a default option (they really really want us to buy that ink) and has to be selected every time I print.

Even if you do not use the coloured inks, the ink in tank will dry out. Also the cartridge has an expiry date.

hm.. I don't think there is expiry date for a catridge. But, 1 thing for sure is, you have to use the catridge once a month average. Otherwise, the ink will dry out automatically. If you leave your printer without using it for 3 months, you will find your catridge is running out of ink.

I am sorry. I can confirm that all new ink-jet printers have an expiry date.

We cannot confirm the expiry date. The printer tells that the cartridge is expired once it does. It did so on my HP C6200 AIO printer.
