    Default A question about the power supply?

    My dear folks I have a question about the power supply w.r.t the following configuration:

    1)Core i7 950 Processor(3.06 GHz)
    2)6 GB DDR3 RAM
    3)2 TB Hard Disk
    4)NVIDIA GT 240 1 GB Graphics Card
    5)Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

    How much watts of SMPS is enough for this rig?

    @whitestar_999

    You mean 450 Watts is enough for this rig?
    By the way i have Zebronics Platinum Series 600 Watts SMPS.
    Is it ok ?

    in xbitlabs review of core i7 950 they used this processor with a x58 mobo,6gb ram,Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 graphics card(much more powerful than your card) & Western Digital Raptor hard disk(10000rpm,again consume much more power than an ordinary hard disk) & still max load was 313W under 100% load condition.

    i usually recommend good PSU for costly processors like i7.also just because a SMPS is rated 600W doesn't mean it will give 600W under all conditions.corsair 650TX is priced at 5800 while you can get a 600-800W SMPS from local/avg brands for much less,why?because corsair will provide at least 80% of 650W under all conditions.your rig doesn't need as much power so a 450W SMPS from cooler master should be enough for you.
    Cooler Master
    GX450 is good even though you can get extreme power plus 460W for 700 less.again the reason is GX series build quality & efficiency is more.so you see even among models from same brand with same power rating there is a difference of quality & price.

    i don't know how good zebronics 600W is but if it costs at least ~2500 & you won't use your PC with processor at 100% load for long durations then even this should work fine.
