    Default Headphones and Headset

I admit, I'm a little bit confused between headphones and headset, I even used the two interchangeably. But that was before and now that I know how they differ from each other, I just wanted to share the knowledge.

As far as I know, hopefully I am right, headphones is mainly used in listening to music. It has a minature speakers which is known as driver and transducers and receivers and receiver elements.

Headset in the other hand, can be used for listening and talking on the phone. Like headphones, a miniature speakers are present in headset but a single one and the microphone acts as the transducers.

Your pretty much correct. Headset allows you to listen and talk at the same time as the microphone is incorporated into the headset, headphones on the orherhand is for listening only, speakers but with no microphone.

If your PC or laptop as an internal microphone and a lot have, then you don't need a headset, but the quality isn't as good so a lot of people choose to buy an external headset anyway.

In simple words, headset is a headphone with a microphone attached to it. Headset is more suitable when there are too many external disturbances as it covers your ear properly. A headset is very useful to talk with a computer or similar device and is also used in VoIP. It is being widely used in customer care BPOs.

Headphone on the other hand is easy to carry and it can be used for common activities like listening music and other audio files. A headphone has no microphone that means it is not meant for a two way communication.

Like others have mentioned, the basic difference is the microphone and nothing else matters. In an headphone, there is no way you could talk. You could only listen to the audio. There isn't a microphone present. But, in an headset, there is a microphone present which allows you to talk and respond. There isn't really any other difference.

I completely agree with p4lse! There isn't much difference between the two except for the microphone available with a headset. Whereas, in a headphone you don't get the option of talking unlike a headset. So, if you don't have any use of a talking feature, go for a headphone instead of a headset.

Everyone has summed it up all. One interesting fact which I always thought is that it's unusual to hear the word "headphone". You'll always end up using headphones. The word (almost) always has an "s" at the end. Because t's a short for "pair of headphones," like "scissors" is short for "pair of scissors".

I prefer earbuds over headphones, I can hear the audio very clearly with earbuds even if you have a neighbor having an awful karaoke concert. My only complaint about earbuds is that they were less durable that headsets.

If there are headsets in the market where the ear pieces were more similar to earbuds, I would like to buy one.

I always prefer over the ear headphones. In ear headphones are not very comfortable.

Yeah, this is correct. For example, headphones for the computer have no microphone, whereas, a headset for your computer, includes a microphone.
