Solution: While is is possible to display the contents of your computer screen on the TV, you may not be very happy with the overall picture quality and the text is not very readable.

If that is no concern, here’s how to connect your computer to a Television set (we used an HP Tablet Vista computer and a Sony Bravia HDTV for this example)

computer-tv-cable 1. First you need a video cable for making the physically connection.

Most computers have an S-Video port that can be connected to the S-Video input of your TV screen using a very cheap S-Video cable (it’s round with 4 or 7 pins).

For better picture quality, you should connect the computer to the TV using standard VGA ports or via the DVI to HDMI cable provided your TV supports these ports.

connect television 2. Open the "display settings" in your Vista computer and activate output to the TV screen. You can either mirror content of your computer on the TV or extend the display just like a dual monitor screen.

3. Pick up your TV remote and switch to "External Inputs" from the menu. You will need to change the default "Video 1" to a different selection which may be "HDMI 1" or "Video 2" depending on how you have made the connection.

Important: Make sure you connect the cable to the TV before turning on the computer as sometimes it may fail to recognize external display.

You may also need to change the screen resolution of your TV using the Display settings in your Control Panel else the picture may appear distorted.

Simple, get a S Video Cable and connect your Laptop to the TV. Just check the S Video Output pin on the Laptop and buy the cable in the computer market. It should be around 30-50 Bucks.

After connecting go into the DVD Mode and voila you will be able to see the Laptop output on the TV.

Cheers!

Please note that S-Video cable carries video signal only - no audio. Audio must be coonected by using the headphone out on laptop to RCA (white and red) pins of TV on the same channel as S-Video. You will need a cable for this.

Set the TV to AV 1/2/3 as applicable.

Then on laptop press Fn+F7 or whatever key is associated with the monitor display change.

Set volume on laptop to max and control the real volume from TV.

But I am wondering - why all this fuss?

a) Buy a DVD/DVix player - will cost less than Rs. 3000/-
b) Burn your movies on CD or DVD and play them directly on the player.

Use S-Video to RCA video cable( YEllow) and Headphone Jack to RCA ( red & white). After connecting Switch Video 1 or 2 as the case might be.

If you have Vista Go to Control Panel-- Windows Mobility centre-- You get option of External Display- Click Connect Diplay. Your laptop screen will flicker to adjust the resolution according to Tv and give you the option of of seeing display on both Laptop and Tv Or Just Tv. This is the Basic steps you need to follow to connect to TV. But the display on TV will not be good but if u see a movie it will better as against reading text. As for LCD the simplest is VGA Cable and Audio Cable. It worked for my HP laptop with Vista with 21" CRT
