The only issue it seems is that the speed is a bit slow but that is expected. You can convert an entire DVD to fit 1 CD (700 MB), 2 CDs (1400 MB), 3 CDs (2100 MB), etc. The higher the compression, the lesser the quality. For converting commerical DVDs protected by Macrovision, CSS and RCE, you will need a ripping tool such as DVD Decrypter. Best part is all these tools are free.

| Platinum Member | I have tried almost all of these multimedia-compression softwares. AutoGK, TmpgEnc are very good softwares. Tmpgenc is not free though but is very easy to use, perfect for new users. I myself have found the combination of Virtualdub and Avisynth to be the best. It is the fastest and supports all the video editing/ripping methods and filters known to man. But one has to use both of them simultaneously and must learn a little bit of scripting to get the job done. Both are free and open source. Doesnt have the proper GUI so scripting is necessary. But in the end worth it because of the speed. With this combination I use ffdshow mpeg codec and some free open-source codecs for various audio (DTS ripping is very tough) and video-containers (MKV is tough too, specially with DTS or some advanced AC3 audio). This setup gives me the flexibility and speed no other software can possibly give. with avisynth scripts one gets the full control over the processor usage. |

Rep Power: 1 | I do this a lot of times, for one i too use VSO ConvertXto DVD, but it takes me max 20-25 mins. When i had a slower PC it used to take me 10 hours to do an encoding/ decoding.... so what i mean is it depends on your processor speed basically your PC config. Also never do a direct encoding/decoding onto a DVD/CD, it is bound to spoil the media. First do a conversion onto your hardisk using convertX or some other proggy, and later use a specialized porgram like Nero or some other burning program to burn in the right template. Also if you want to get the maximum speed of your conversion, close all other programs running......firewall, antivirus, webrowser, etc |

I have an P4 (2 Ghz.). It took me 3 hours to convert a DVD to DVix. It was just for fun and I probably used the default settings. If someone wants to seriously do some encoding, they should opt for Quad-Code processors. | |
