    possible causes and suggestions:

    1) use a soft opaque surface beneath your optical mouse. optical mouses are known to face this issue on shiny or glassy surfaces.

    2) this generally happens due to the effect of some other plug and play device. try to use the mouse with different permutations of various plug-n-play(usb) devices by removing each device one by one.

    3) try cleaning the optical sensor surface of the mouse using some brush or wind blow

    4) the mouse sensitivity might have been increased accidentally in the control panel mouse settings and this dancing behaviour problem may occur in such case even due to slightest of air/wind - even of overhead fans.

    5) rarely but some viruses are known to exhibit such behaviour. but this is rare.

try these things .... i hope one of them will work for you. otherwise get yourself a new one ...

    Thanks

Ok first, thanks sourav for sharing this idea.

Now many people are facing this problem of optical mouses.
including double clicking on single click & dragging problems.

Let me tell you that this is not always a software problem, infact the two above specified problems are mostly due to a worn out mouse clicker or switch.
so you will have to get the switch repaired or repair it yourself if don't wanna buy a new one.
here is the whole procedure to repair the switch yourself(now i can't post the link due to that 15 post rule)1. go to google.com-->type "mouse switch repair"-->click on the result from "ovelockers dot com".

This solved my problem & hope so for you.

Default Direction problem with optical mouse

    Hi,

I am facing different problem with my optical mouse. My mouse's direction is changed after I restarted my machine.

When I move mouse to right side, the pointer moves at bottom side and when I move it to left it moves to up. Vice-versa with top and bottom, moves right and left.

I am not sure whether the file you have provide will work or not. Please confirm whether it will fix this problem also.

I am using Windows XP SP3 and the mouse is UMAX Model # 0116.

    Thanks, Divyesh
