While mobo+processor will cost 11K+, don't forget that the new mobo will be supporting SATA and most likely old PC has PATA disks. Hence all disks (including CD/DVD-ROM/RW) will also need replacing.

Overall this is like a complete upgrade to the CPU box. Expect a budget of minimum 20K.

    .
I think in every latest board there is 1 PATA slot for the CD ROM, hence can connect 1 HDD & 1 CD ROM.........

Correct me if i am wrong......!

Yes. That is possible. But somehow, people advise on most tech forums to have HDD and optical drive on different channels.

yes ... one reason is HDD will always be running so when writing a CD if the same channel is used there might be chances of data corruption in CD & once CD is corrupted its waste ... so that might be a reason.....

the DVD/optical drive can be connected via IDE and the HDD can be connected via IDE to SATA converter, maybe as a secondary backup disk coz I don't know about its performance.

My Core 2 Duo 2.5 Ghz and DG35EC Mobo together cost me 9000/-

When I used P3 with CD drive on the 815 mobo , it was working fine. but after the 9xx series came I think HDD and Optical drives needed to be separate channels otherwise the system doesn't boot.

Motherboard will have to be changed because latest processors will not work with old motherboard. Even if they did (extremely unlikely), they will be hampered - quite like having a 4000cc engine in a reeking body/chasis.

    .

no doubt it WILL change the mother board there are a lot of reasons for this but the simplest it in P4 processors have pins at the bottom but in C2D processor dont have pins but the board itself has it.....
