In our day-today life, we would have had to install at least half a dozen windows application depending upon our usage of computer. And as time passes by, and occasions arise, we may install additional applications according to the need. Now, some of these application may not be closely related to the OS, while others can be misused into harming your OS, data etc.

Common applications like Internet explorer, adobe flash , windows media player , anti-viruses fall into the latter category. The fact remains that the majority of such security problems can be averted if the softwares are kept updated.

While a many of softwares include an inbuilt updater , they might not always work properly due to scheduled time, frequency of update time etc. At the same time, it’s neither feasible nor pleasurable to check each application website manually for updates.

Now here is an application called as “update notifier” which can automatically scan for all installed softwares, make a list of them and check for updates.

• You can also specify a directory with portable applications and then they will also be checked for updates.

• You have the option to set the frequency at which the software will be checked for updates. For casual users a period of 1 day will do just fine.

I have uTorrent 2.0 (build 17774) instated and version 2.0 RC- 3 is available. But Update Notifier is showing, 1.8.5 (build 17091) as installed version. Even build 17414 available now.

In µTorrent - a (very) tiny BitTorrent client the latest is 1.8.5. Yo are using Beta/RC. Also Updates notifier shows final version only !
