| Does anybody have any idea how one can host an HTTP/FTP Server on a private IP. Moreover, if the ISP blocks all ports and still provide a Public IP, then it's generally not possible to host a website on this IP but is there any way we can have a public IP from any Third Party IP Provider? I mean to say ... Suppose my PC has an IP like 202.88.70.64. It's a Public IP but if somebody pings it from the outside network then they wont be able to coz the ports are blocked from the ISP. But if we can have a Virtual IP like softwares such Hamachi provides a Virtual IP which can be reached from the outside network then the problem will be solved but yeah the person who will try to ping the Virtual IP provided by this Hamachi should also have Hamachi running at their end. But is it anyway possible, we can get a Virtual Public IP which can be provided by any Third Party service provider and that can be pinged and a website or an FTP server can be hosted? Please reply if anybody has an idea. Lofty |

Rep Power: 12 | You are getting into unnecesary complications. Its is not possible that your isp blocks all the ports coz that wopuld prevent you from browsing the net aswell so just check which ports are blocked and avoide those and you will be fine. Besides that there are a lot of free hosting companies if you want to try one of them coz your own connection will be pretty slow for a website to be hosted. |

| Hi Admin, Thank you for your quick reply. But how can I know which ports are blocked and which are opened. As I had mentioned in my previous post that my IP is not being pinged from the external network then how can I host a website? Moreover, yeah the ICMP (the protocol responsible for pinging) Port would have been blocked but how about other ports, I know port 80 is open and I am able to surf internet. But to host an HTTP Server or FTP Server, I need some ports to be opened also and yeah if the ISP would have done NAT in their router then it's difficult to go for hosting. By the way, I have 512 kbps line and I think I can host a website or at least an FTP Server so that I can exchange files between my Office PC and Home PC. I know there are a lot of Free Webhosting offering websites and I also had 2 regular live websites of my own as well previously but now as I have this home connection with a better speed (512 kbps) so I need to go for one site hosted on my own PC. Well, just waiting for your reply and need you to be more specific how I can have a site on this connection with the existing port blocking problem. Thanking you again. Lofty |
