Well, a Firefox/Chrome extension called CloudMagic (Fast Gmail Search Extension | CloudMagic) helps you do lightning-fast searches, with results appearing as you type. It does this by indexing your emails. Once you install the add-on and enter the username/password, it starts indexing, which takes some time depending on the size of your inbox. Once done, it throws up instant search results for whatever you type.
