POP3 is a service that must be enabled from the source e-mail provider, e.g., Yahoo, Rediff, Gmail, etc. Most of them disable this service because then no one uses their own interface that contains ad's. Thus they are potentially deprived of the income. If you pay for POP3 service, then they will enable it for you.

I've never used/tried Outlook.

Happily using Thunderbird for a long time with IMAP for gmail.

It has a built in RSS reader option too.

One could use Lightning extension, if there is a need to organize todo's/other things or for time management.

i used thunderbird about a year back but never found it good as it was working very slow (may be on my system only) but found outlook 2003 as better option and now using windows live mail
